I've moved into the area last year and registered my family with Shay Lane Medical Centre. So far the experiences were good. I've called them up when I think my kids or myself needed medical attention and I didn't need to wait on the line forever. After the initial conversation with the receptionist, they usually booked me up for a call back appointment with the doctor on the same day, if needed, the doctor will ask me to bring my kids in for a proper examination. I think I've had Dr Taylor-Bernard and Dr Barnes before, and both are wonderful. Thank you.
I read the reviews and found them very baffling! However, there are 2 GP practices operating from this centre. I assume 1 is amazing getting 5 star reviews and the other has room for improvement? From a personal perspective I've always felt very lucky to be a patient of Drs Kelman, Cranston and Naylor. Dr Naylor now retired in particular was the best GP ever and whilst I'm fortunate to enjoy good health so dont use the services very often the reception staff at this practice have always been empathetic and helpful, very often able to offer same day appointments. During the Covid situation I used their online service. It was brilliant, I had medication within 1 hour of raising the problem.
Dr Haslam was brilliant. Helped with my mums multiple issues and was very thorough. Excellent at explaining each issue and what to do to remedy them. Thanks . Mo
Wasted a month trying to move GPs. I asked if I could come in and fill in forms instead of online because it doesn't work and I've wasted time and they pretty much said no. I advised that the first time around online transfer didn't work, but the receptionists didn't care or offer solutions other than "try again".
Reception staff are beyond obnoxious and outright liars to the bone, myself and my wife have experienced this first hand. In my wife's case they reduced her to tears. Doctors come across as incredibly lazy and would much rather refer a patient elsewhere without even seeing them and without giving their own assessment first. If I could give minus stars I would. Archaic systems and stuck up staff is a recipe for disaster. The NHS is overwhelmed is their favourite excuse. The doctors here are glorified PA's at best. Avoid.
Not happy with admin staff, i have moved to this area and had to fill the registration and health questionnaire forms twice as the admin staff were not able to register when filled first time. After 3 months tried to book an appointment, been told i am not registered yet. Rest of my family were successfully registered which is a surprise! Doctors are really good, if admin staff can be trained properly then this gp center would be amazing!
Been with this practice for over 30 years. Dr Patel spotted a rare condition in my father that potentially saved his life. He also took immediate action for my mum which gave her an extra 19 years. He supported mums mental health after losing my sister. He has supported me medically through two children and various minor ailments and mentally through a marriage breakdown and work related stress. He also supported me with paperwork and a medical for fostering. Receptionists are obviously busy but always polite and helpful. I've never had a problem getting an appointment especially for urgent matters.
The best practice I have every been to. Never had any any problems with staff that are under pressure like they are. The five stars are for both doctors and reseptionists. Keep up the good work and thanks for sorting my medical needs.
Doctors are great. Admin staff need to take a course in how to deal with people. facts i was given a weeks course of antibiotics by DR.Barnes told to report back after. tried since last thursday calling to speak to him. eventually drove to surgery this morning as no answer yet again. caught a lady going in the locked surgery doors as the outside bell is non operational to to ask if theres anyone that can come out. finally someone came out 1st question have you an appointment. i advised how can i make an appointment when you tell me on the answer phone message do not use ask my gp. to call. you don't answer the phone. as a tax payer of 50% if i ran my business like this with this arrogance we wouldn't survive. i was told he will call me later today as if i am some 2nd class citizen. facts are they are paid £12.58 to give the covid jab by the government it seems all resources are on this.
Do not attend this surgery if you have mental health problems. The doctors are clinically negligent and refuse people medications. Had 3 avoidable A&E admissions in the last 12 months due to doctors refusing to perscribe medications. They are exceptionally rude and lack compassion and the same can be said for the receptionist, one giggled at me and then put me on hold whilst I was in crisis.
