Story

We have been established in the south of Manchester for over 20 years. During this time we have expanded into one of the largest book retailers in Manchester. We sell online, through Abebooks (www.abebooks.co.uk) and Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk), and are open to the public, 10am-5pm, 7 days a week.
We boast a collection of titles like no other; our online inventory lists over 40,000 titles and we house over a million books instore.
You can either view our books on our Amazon storefront or through our Abebooks site by clicking the appropriate link below. We also take orders over the phone, by correspondence via letters, and e-mail (we accept cheques and all major credit/debit cards except American Express)
We pride ourselves on the variety and quality of our books, all of which are constantly reassessed to ensure competitive prices, and we will go to every length to find the book you want. Our online inventory is only a small percentage of our entire stock and is kept separate from the books we keep instore so there is every chance you will find what you're looking for if you come and visit the shop. If you are unable to visit us please give us a call and our well-trained,knowledgeable and experienced staff will search high and low to find the book you want.

You can't find many places like this anymore. Literally a treasure trove maze. There are two floors, with additional storage containers to contain more categories note, wear layers!. I do not think this place is wheelchair accessible, some of the gaps are pretty narrow. I did not see any lifts. This place has helpful shop keepers; with reasonable prices. I easily spent hours here.
It is a few years since I went to Sharston books for the first time with my mother. We just loved the character and atmosphere of an old style book shop. It appears to be closed and purchases now made online but it would be lovely to keep it open alongside the online service / there is a place for them both.
This is a wonderful treasure trove of second hand books. Comprising of one 2 storey building and 2 shipping containers, this is a book lover's heaven in Manchester. They have a great selection of books, thoughtfully arranged and have friendly staff who are happy to help. I had a lovely 2 hour browse and could have easily spent more time in there - a hidden gem!
Very extensive collection of books - largest that I've seen under one roof and I didn't have time to look in the ship containers ! Has some very unusual items and has sections that you would not see in a conventional bookstore. Prices are very competitive. If you like books, you will find it difficult to resist buying much more than you intended to buy. I am looking forward to returning very soon.
Sharston Books used to be one of the hidden gems of Manchester. Bookshelves from wall to ceiling, some even on archways above you, some even in the toilet! It was a book lover's paradise, the place you could go with nothing in mind and walk out with a bag so full and heavy you'd struggle to make it to the bus stop nearby. Going there with friends, partners, family, was one of my favourite things to do in Manchester, and we'd always spend enough to justify our visit. It's been closed for over 2 years now, and the owners still show no sign of reopening. It's now just another online book warehouse, ten a penny on ebay or other websites. A huge waste.
A place of dreams. Best book shop ever. Go on find me a better one. Lose hours in here, and wrap up warm! Smells as you would hope. Kids section incredible, didn't used to need that bit either. Excellent staff and excellent all round. Thanks for existing.
Over a million new and secondhand books. This shop is a proper secondhand book shop. A labyrinth 2 floor building set in a small industrial area. It's like a tardis. On the outside is a small door opening up into a large unit with wall to wall books. Also Framed paintings ornaments, curios. Collectable books, mags, comics. It's also dose book searches. It's now changed hands to new owners. At the moment it is only doing internet orders and inquiries. If and when it opens again it's worth a visit.
Sharston Books is like a mini Hay-on-Wye, but in an industrial estate. Kind of hard to find but worth the effort as this place is huge and piled high with good, sensibly priced secondhand books. If you don't find what you were specifically after you will generally find some other treasure that will make the trip worthwhile. And don't miss the extra "container-sections" outside the main warehouse, they have expanded.
This place is a hidden gem, an Aladdin's cave, a maze of books. Totally unexpected.. Should be in the lonely planet book as a quirky place to visit for the Americans. They would just love it Penelope Gibson
Who needs a library when you have this Aladins cave. I was shown this place by the wife and OMG it's a labyrinth of books of every subject you can think of...... and then some. Having spent half an hour inside just "browsing" I came outside to two off shipping containers full of more books. Books are organised into categories, history, war, travel, film & tv etc etc. Think of a category and they'll most probably have it. Most books are pre owned but all in excellent condition. They also have ordnance survey maps. I'm not a great reader and found this place out of this world as far as book shops go so imagine what someone into books will make of it.
