Mabel’s @ shallowmead hosted our babyshower for my partner and they did a fantastic job, food was great, service was amazing and they helped set everything up at a great price! Would fully recommend to anyone who’s looking for a venue to host an event. Thank you everyone!
Really enjoyed my visit to this garden centre. It was full of lovely, different items, good quality plants AND had bamboo wind chimes which I have been looking for for months. The cafe had a good choice of cakes and savouries and the service was helpful and friendly. I will certainly be visiting again.
I took a friend who was visiting the New Forest to Mable’s as a treat but I had not been there for a while . It has changed completely. It used to be a very friendly welcoming place for coffee and cakes. It now only has self-service coffee and appears only to be interested in the lunch trade . The coffee is there longer delicious; I’m sure that they used to serve coffee mongers coffee : my cappuccino was a coffee flavoured milky drink which was barely drinkable. As it was 10.15; in the morning and still quite chilly outside, we asked to sit inside but we were not allowed to sit on any of the tables which were benefiting from the sunshine: In fact a member of staff told us quite abruptly that all the tables in the sunshine ‘were laid’ ! . In this case ‘ laid’ meant a napkin with a single knife and fork on 2 places : apparently “these tables were only available for people coming to lunch” even though by this time it was barely 10.30 in the morning. So we had to sit inside but in the shade . The only redeeming feature was the garden centre shop but Mabel’s itself has completely lost its way ; the staff do not understand the word ‘service’ and they no longer serve a decent coffee and as a result they have lost my custom : what a pity , it should be great My 1 star is for the surroundings , nothing else deserves a * of any sort .
My wife and I used to really enjoy having a drink and cake at Shallowmead. Sadly, no longer…..having been relegated to the self service as we only wanted a drink and pastry, we found our way to the freezer……room devoid of heat on a dreary Saturday morning…..the service was pathetic, the pastry was dry boring and claggy and the general feel of the place was unwelcoming…..we shall have to think before we venture there again….the feel of the place is now tacky and grossly overpriced!!
A rather unnecessary divide between the café menu and restaurant menu recently implemented. Staff are lovely in both but, given they are 5m apart, it is not a customer centric view of service. Not sure I'd go back.
Nice garden centre. Cafe is particular is great. Dog friendly and staff that were very helpful. Thank you
After reading the newspapers on 0 rating hygiene and knowing how bad it is behind the scenes I wouldn't ever eat at Mabels even when it's supposedly closed for refurbishment again after only having that done just over a year ago, what a joke! Get rid of the family running the kitchen I say!
We went to Mabel's this morning. Our experience was the same as Robin Davis 's experience. We were told that the restaurant was only for breakfast and lunch and we would have to sit in the coffee lounge area as we only wanted a coffee and cake. There weren't any seats available for the three of us, so we left. We went to another tea rooms and we won't be going back to Mabel's .
Friendly staff, so welcoming. Christmas Dinner in the restaurant was amazing. I will definitely be back.
Lovely cakes and coffee. Great seating area very well laid out.
