Discovering this Malaysian restaurant was a game-changer for my taste buds! Its proximity to the London Hilton Metropole made it a convenient and delightful find. As a huge fan of Malaysian food, I was thrilled to experience the best food in this restaurant. We returned for a second visit during our London stay, as once was not enough to indulge in the incredible flavours. The staff's warm hospitality and attentiveness made our dining experience truly special. The generous food portions and diverse menu options catering to my favorite dishes made it a culinary haven. Our starter, chicken satay, was a masterclass in flavors, paired with peanut sauce, cucumber, red onion, and rice cubes. The mains – Curry Chicken, Beef Rendang, and Bihun Goreng – were expertly crafted and presented. The dessert, Pisang Goreng and Ice-cream, was a sweet and satisfying conclusion to our meal. Each dish was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to authentic Malaysian cuisine. Booking in advance is highly recommended, as we were lucky to secure a table on our first visit. I eagerly look forward to returning to this gastronomic gem on my next London visit.
Visited this place on a Saturday for lunch booked a table just an hour in advance. What caught my eye is despite being a tiny place it was very clean and tidy . The pace at which food was served was excellent. Didn’t have to wait too long for the food at all. The dishes that stood out were the fried chicken wings which was called the Ayam bawang putih and the roti canai with chicken sauce. The nasigoreng was a bit of a let down interms of taste. Overall a decent experience!
We had great food & also 2 bottles of wine and 4 beers between 6 of us. Food and wine were good but when the bill came they had charged us for 3 bottles of wine instead of 2 and there was a 10% service charge! If I had not checked my bill, I would have overpaid by about 15%.Food: 5/5
Wow, one of the best restaurants! So many tastes! Chicken wings are fantastic, go for the banana desert. Satay is tasty too, also the chicken in milk. Everything was soo tasty
By far the best cuisine I have ever had! Satay House has set the new standard when it comes to dining out, and have shown the beauty of Malaysian dishes. Our waiter who worked the Monday 1st April shift on the upstairs floor, around 7pm was very kind, tentative, and cheerful. I should also mention that the food was halal, and that they catered to those who were fasting with dates, and priority service! Unfortunately I have forgotten his name, but he was an amazing member of the team. I hope to come dining here again in the near future, and try out more of Satay Houses dishes.
We have really enjoyed the restaurant here. Nice and spacious vibes. Foods are delicious and portions are just right. I had the stir fried noodles and i can taste the “wok hay” of it! Yum~Food: 5/5
Came for the chicken satay, which were brilliant, like home made Malay food. But blown away by the Mee soup with prawns. Was outstanding, tasty and nutritious!!! And huge portion. Getting a seat can be hit and miss, as have periods of being super busy and then goes quiet. Best to reserve by phone. Service was quick, very friendly pleasant staff. August 2022: Also lovely tea Update September 2024: Chicken satay are still so so awesome. Jasmine tea was lovely too. THE place for Malaysian food in London. The place does get busy in the evening session from 1730 onwards so better to reserve a spot.
Had high expectations before coming today and SHMR managed to satisfy every bit and more. The highlight had to be the Nasi Goreng Kampung which is filled with flavors from the anchovies. The peas though atypical for the dish, it worked well in this case. The only let down would be the chicken satay where the meat was a bit dry although it was still tasty. The nasi impit on the side was an added bonus.
Initially slow service drinks took ages but nice enough staff, though awkward when one of them nervously quizzed us on why we were sitting at the wrong table we’d asked if it were OK as the other table was cramped next to a group and right buy an opening door, gusting in cold air. Menu only viewable via scanning barcode and using your phone, absolutely ridiculous and totally unacceptable for a restaurant of this price point. Really difficult to see everything clearly and make decisions. Starters: friend’s spring rolls looked nice; my hollowed-out tofu with beansprouts was a simple dish but the dipping sauce was very good. My main of fish curry was delicious, but disappointingly small. Side of tofu and beansprouts was OK, but very simple and needed some soy sauce on the table. Friend enjoyed his noodle dish. Overall, a rather underwhelming experience though I’d certainly like to try a double portion of that fish curry. In the past I'd perhaps give a '3', but with everything so expensive now, it's a '2', especially with the menu nonsense.
Make sure to book as it pretty busy! Food is generally spicy. So make sure you are aware, if you don't like having spicy food make sure to let them know. The food was really delicious. The service was nice and the staff were also great. The seating is a little crammed, but I think there is more seating upstairs or in another part of the restaurant which we didn't get to see. Biggest negative is the price of the roti. Whilst the meals are priced reasonably the roti costs £8!!! All the food is halal
