Russian Orthodox Church

Story

The Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God and All Saints is Grade II* listed cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Sourozh, which is the Moscow Patriarchate's diocese for the islands of Great Britain and Ireland. The cathedral is located in Ennismore Gardens, Knightsbridge, London, England. It houses the administrative apparatus of the diocese. The church was built in 1848–1849, and the architect was Lewis Vulliamy. The western façade is a very close copy of that of the Basilica of St. Zeno, Bishop of Verona, in Verona, Italy. This similarity has only existed since the reconstruction in 1891.HistoryThe building of the cathedral was built in 1849 as the Anglican Church of All Saints.Architect Lewis Vulliamy proposed to build a church in Lombard style instead of the conventional Gothic style. However, the full project could not be realized due to financial reasons. Consecration of the church took place in July 1849. It became a parish, with the boundaries of Kensington Palace Gardens to Albert Gate. The parish had about 5,000 people.

London' main Russian Orthodox Cathedral. May not look the part from the outside, but it's surely "Russian" on the inside: all the beauty of the English church building was not only preserved, but renovated with Russian character added. I'll let you be the judge of the outcome
A nice and quaint cathedral hidden away among the many buildings in central london. I had no idea such a place existed. This Russian cathedral has lots of beautiful works of art depicting Jesus, the saints. For all the devout Christians out there, this is an essential place to visit and pray. This is also the filming location for an episode of Poirot called "How does your garden grow?" which compelled me to visit this place.
Russian church, was a great experience. Very clean and quiet place, looks like newly renovated. The staff is friendly, shop have quite big variety of everything you need for religious purposes. Prices are good, not high. Looks like they have some educational classes for children and help group for those who really needs it. Worth to have a visit.
An example of London diversity and a congregation, Orthodox, whom faith and Orthodox Christmas 7th Jan has to do with faith and family, not commercialism
Very good location, have parking. The church is big and quiet place. Very well organised when have events.
Good church sung in English and Russian it also has nice icons and seating arrangements and if you need anything there will be many priests there after the divine liturgy also there's a bookshop with books in Russian and English and icons too
Everything in this church was beautiful, and perfect. The service is 2 hours, but it does vary from time-to-time. However, the people at the candle desk refused to give me my receipt for my purchase I made and said it is not necessary, but otherwise, everything was great!
Amazing church!! I love the icons with holy relics...such a peaceful place!!!!! There is also a book shop with Christian Orthodox books.
I've been to this cathedral so many times. It is a beautiful place - very well kept and clean and there are always lovely flower displays. The orthodox icons there are of great historical value. The staff is friendly. Love its serenity and tranquility, although it is in the heart of the busy Knightsbridge.
We are visiting church on Sundays It's nice and peaceful
