After walking a very muddy stepping stones walk at Box Hill we were told about this pub by the National Trust lady. We arrived after the kitchen had closed so asked if there was anywhere else local to get food. A quick word with the chef and 5 of us were quickly seated and we enjoyed a well earned meal and rest. Food was really enjoyable and staff quick and friendly , I'd say the friendliest local I've ever been in.
My partner, my pup and I had a fantastic weekend at the hotel and pub. This is the most dog friendly establishment I’ve ever been in and the staff, special shout-out to Dan, go out of their way to be welcoming to you and your pup. The rooms were clean and comfy. The food was fantastic. The people were great. The fire pit is always on. Could not have asked for a better experience.
This is a lovely cosy village pub serving pretty good food. The staff were really nice and friendly. One very small comment. The mixed fried seafood starter for £12 is honestly CRIMINAL. Whoever put that on the menu, for that price, should go directly to jail.
Beautiful pub in the countryside, would highly recommend. The scotch egg was one of the best I’ve ever had. Fish & chips was flawless. Sticky toffee pudding second to none! Crème caramel on the other hand was a let down - potential error in the recipe, but did not detract from the overall experience!
Great countryside gastropub with plenty of seating and food options. It was busy for Sunday afternoon so I'm guessing the food must be good. Service was nice with a smile and attentive. Did friendly and situated about halfway at Box Hill trail. Brilliant.Service: 5/5
Stayed here for our anniversary weekend to explore the area. We thought this place was brilliant, great customer service with super friendly staff, beautiful rooms simple but done with taste, excellent food had for dinner and breakfast plus great decor with cosy pub fire feel. Also a very good location, went on a fabulous hilly walk. Would definitely go again. :
I recently visited The Running Horses and was truly amazed by the atmosphere. It's a quaint, family-owned restaurant located in a small town in the Midwest. The restaurant itself is quite cozy and has a warm, inviting atmosphere. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The menu had a wide selection of dishes to choose from.
What a great venue in terms of historic dreams. The service is very good too but unfortunately the food no longer lives up to its reputation. Out of four of us one rated it eight venison the rest of us literally 1one sirloin steaks and a fish of the day. Shame.
Visited Sunday. Menu was quite short and it was even more limited as some items sold out. Quite long waiting time for food. Cauliflower was too hard for my liking and cheese sauce was way too runny. Service was polite and friendly.
Very friendly pub, lovely staff, liked the open fire. Had steak and roast pumpkin mains, very tasty, portions just right. Sourdough bread starter also very good.
