The church of St Mary le Port, by Bristol Bridge on the edge of Castle Park, is believed to be of Saxon origin but was extensively damaged during the air raids in November 1940 and has been left in ruins; all that remains intact is the 15th century tower, which is a Grade II Listed Building.
