It's hard to get really enthused by any Fish & Chip shop - after all, fish & chips have been such a staple in the diet for all our lives. Royals are always friendly and can be quite busy (showing how popular they are). I tend to phone my order through in advance and just pop in to collect - saving all the hanging around when they are busy. One particularly nice feature is that they cater for people requiring gluten free diets. I do not need gluten-free food, but find the batter is lighter and crispier - almost like a tempura - so I usually specify the gluten-free option. Portion sizes for fish and the chips are generous.

Staff were polite , fish ok asked for cod ,but was not cod. The chips were appalling as they were dry and half of them were rotten with black through them. Probably the worst chips I’ve ever had in 50 years.
