I was taken into A&E on Christmas Day having suffered an inflamed esophagus which prevented me from swallowing. My treatment was first rate and very thorough with an endoscopy the following morning which revealed a food bolus and inflammation, but thankfully nothing worse. The staff in the Male Assessment Unit were very competent and kind. I was very impressed with the treatment and staff who were under great pressure but always helpful.

Hospital trying to say I can't leave my room because I might have TB all of a sudden ? Since when? No ones told me and I've been here 10 days admitted with punctured lung. Since you were admitted. I have it only if you have given it to me since I've been here. I've been walking the corridors doing physio and going to the atrum. I've had visits from friends and family all has been no problem. I get moved to a different ward and they come out with this rubbish? Hospital oh no sir you probably don't have it. Your over reacting and that's the end of it. Your not allowed out. Okay I need to tell everyone that visited including my sister who baby is 2 weeks old. No sir your over reacting.

We have had to take our little one here a few times to see an orthopaedic specialist and once to the A&E. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice and well run the place seems. Great staff, very kind and helpful. We are often seen straight away and didn't have to wait around too long. We always feel as if we are in good hands at RUH.

Came in yesterday with breathing problems and couldn't talk. Receptionist got my husband to talk for me as she couldn't be bothered to wait for me to talk slowly. The triage nurses were slow. Any concerns or questions I had were brushed aside. Said was concerned my SATs were low and my blood pressure was high. Was told what do you expect with a chest infection? Thank God I got an appointment with a private doctor who nebulised me and gave me the medication I needed. I think if I had stayed here I would be dead

Generally good care. Avoid the Urgent Care Center (which is run by Vocare, a private company as opposed to the majority of A&E which is run by the NHS Trust). In the UCC, I was seen by a nurse who was apathetic and rude. I have now had to make a formal complaint about this situation, to which Vocare have respondend with a letter stating several factual inaccuracies about the situation. Both the RUH and the Urgent Care Center are rated as "requires improvement" but the CQC. The UCC is unsafe, ineffective and not well led according to the CQC report available online. In summary, the RUH is fine for physical health problems. I was not so impressed with the mental healthcare, but this is a liason service not provided by the acute trust, so perhaps that is to be expected. A&E is very busy and understaffed - at the time I visited there was no registrar in A&E which is frankly shocking. However, I don't think this is the fault of the RUH - this is due to underfunding of the NHS. I injured my knee and went to A&E after it got significantly worse after I'd seen my GP. They were efficient in organising an X-Ray and an MRI and I saw the consultant twice in two weeks following my attendance at A&E. The hospital itself was modern, clean and generally had a nice atmosphere. The "Friends of the RUH" shop is nice and well stocked.
