This is the best museum I have ever visited. I have been here twice now once on a weekday and now a weekend as I am not local to Leeds. However, there is so much to explore and this place is massive! I love how they do interactive acts and teachings on different armoury and weapons used in the past. It’s so enticing that it’s easy to spend a whole day here. They open from 10AM-5PM like other museums but there is so so much more to see. No need to pre-purchase any tickets before hand as there is no wait and they are free regardless. I 100% recommend watching the acts and talks they hold every hour which the last one is usually held at 3PM as they are super informative and you can learn so much. It’s a lovely, fun, interactive and educational day out for all ages. All of the staff are incredibly polite and super attentive if you need any help or to ask any questions! I also recommend donating as it keeps amazing museums like this running! Lastly, David and Keith were amazing, they usually do the interactive acts and I have watched them both times I have visited this museum. Their stage presence is amazing with the talks and acts which really entices you to what they are teaching. They are super interactive with the audience also which is really quite special!
I really enjoyed my trip to the Royal Armouries! Was very informative and tonnes of things to see. The staff were lovely, approachable and very informative. We visited during half term and it wasn’t too busy either. I feel like I have to go back just to take in the vast amount of information I discovered. And it’s free too! So many museums recently are charging to enter so it’s wonderful to be able to learn for free. Thank you!
The Armory Museum in Leeds is a hidden gem for history enthusiasts, especially those with an interest in medieval armor and weaponry. The collection is impressive, featuring a wide array of beautifully crafted armors, swords, and historical artifacts that transport visitors back in time. What really sets this museum apart, however, is the live performances from actors inside. These interactive displays bring history to life, with actors dressed in period appropriate costumes, adding an immersive and engaging layer to the experience. The museum offers free entry, making it accessible to everyone, and it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking for something unique to do in Leeds, the Armory Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. It’s both educational and entertaining, with a great balance of static displays and dynamic performances. Highly recommended!
Really great museum that's free! Some really good exhibits and talks. Staff have great knowledge and are really friendly and approachable. Even overheard them talking to each other about the exhibits and their history showing passion for what they do. Was really surprised at how quiet this place was for the location. Bring your family here! It's a great day out and is full of history! And they may even get to witness a medieval duel. There's a private car park close by which is a bit pricey but as this place is free it's still worth it. Plenty of toilet facilities available. Only suggestions would be simple people like me get lost and definitely went the wrong way around the exhibits some advised direction floor stickers would help. There were quite a few smudges on the glass from overeager pointers and a couple of exhibits at the edges were a little tired. Highly recommend taking a pic with your reflection, wearing the samurai armour was great fun :
If you love military history this is the place to visit! There are arms, armour and so much more from the Romans to modern day. The museum has 5 floors, they do live sword fighting in the museum, they do regular lance couching tournaments outside the museum and the inside is packed to the roof with incredible exhibits from nearly 4.000 years of warfare. You can even shoot a crossbow! The displays are amazing and you should really spend a whole day here. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and best of all: It's free of charge!!!
An amazing museum which was free to get in. There is so much to see. A nice flow through the different ages of history as you walk through the museum taking you up to more modern times, Evan a section on films as well. There were demonstrations of various things throughout the day which adds to the experience. The cafe had really nice food and drinks as well. The Eton Mess was amazing. The shop was well stocked with plenty of different things.
The Royal Armouries Museum is an impressive experience that showcases history in a remarkable way. The museum's expansive layout allows for an extensive display of artifacts from various eras, making it a treasure trove for history lovers. The collection includes everything from ancient weapons to super rare historical items, ensuring there’s something fascinating for everyone. One of the standout features is the museum shop, which offers a diverse range of items from different time periods. Whether you're looking for a unique souvenir or a historical replica, the shop provides plenty of options. What's truly remarkable is that the entrance to the museum is free, which is quite surprising given the scale and the quality of the exhibits. The museum's grandeur and the variety of items on display make it an exceptional destination. Overall, the Royal Armouries Museum is definitely worth a visit. The combination of its extensive collection, rare artifacts, and free admission makes it a standout attraction that should not be missed.
Amazing experience. The amount of items is staggering. Even without reading into the history of every relic you can spend here 3-4 hours. Add to it the shows that are being held everyday and you can make it even longer. The staff is really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the things they present. I can easily recommend this place to any history/weaponry nerd like me. I booked a ticket for myself but was told later that its not really needed. Dont know about weekends though. They might be a bit busier.
Absolutely amazing museum to visit, number of artifices with information. The sword demonstration was really fun it was enjoyable, no entrance fee which makes it’s a great out day for anyone. Easy to access, loads to see very helpful staff and volunteers, interesting military history. Totally worth spending time every minute. Fantastic museum. If you spend time hour or day definitely you will find a lot of new things and findings. If you come to Leeds, highly recommended to come to this museum , Huge and loads of hidden gem. I loved the more laid back vibe of Leeds and had some amazing food. If you are in the area you really have got to stop by the royal armories they have so many amazing artifacts and one can easily spend 4–5 hours here seeing all the exhibits. Admission is free which is a plus and I have wanted to go for years after seeing the YouTube videos by the museum's curators. It was pretty quiet on the weekday we visited on. 5 floors of armouries items, there's live talks and demos as well. Superbly presented museum with a wide variety of arms and armour, well displayed in context. love it
This was a definite wow moment museum I thought it might be a bit boring when I first heard where we were going ,but it was far removed from that, initially I thought about the First and Second World war, but it was the whole world throughout history. All the facilities were brilliant from easy parking, cafe and superb shop, I'm sure we'll visit again because you can't possibly take it all in.
