Visited for an evening meal with our 10 month old son and young dog. Staff were super friendly and accommodating and even had the high chair ready to go when we arrived. Delightful gourmet food showcasing local flavours, quite a world away from normal pub grub! We had the Crispy Hen's Egg as a main, highly recommended, although it does need a side to go with it if you've been out on the hills all day
We ate twice there while staying nearby. Sunday Roast was one of the best we have had in a a long time, and overall food was top notch. Made lots of fuss of the dog as well. Very friendly and would highly recommend.Service: 5/5
We had a wonderful meal at The Rock Inn. The food was innovative, exciting, well thought out, presented really well and tasted superb. Service was very friendly and attentive. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend!Service: 5/5
Called in approaching lunchtime today Sunday expecting to be disappointed. Don’t you just love it when things come together? Got the last table as everything else was booked. Enjoyed a superb Sunday lunch of roast beef followed by the signature dish of sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream. Everything about this place was exquisite. Food and character of the building was first class. The attentive friendly staff were a credit to their profession. We were lucky enough to meet the owner who gave us his time to explain the history. We will most definitely be back and plan to stay in the hotel.
Went there for lunch. Last visited was 10 or so years ago. Quality and experience was top notch then. It remains now. We picked from 2 course specials. Absolutely superb. Did order a side of chips between my wife and I. Think that that was about right for us. The waitress knew all about the smokers. Apparently, the artichokes were hickory smoked, you don't get that level of cuisine or that level service from your average eateries and at such modest prices.
Went for lunch, picked from the set menu. £20 for two courses of this quality represent excellent value. This given the setting, the sevice and the ambience. This given that in my case, the starter was venison in a suet pudding and the main course was Gilt-head Bream on a roasted cauliflower base. If honest, I'm a bit disappointed to have to pay extra for a portion of chips. Portioned shared between 2 was needed. It would not stop me from returning or recommending.
One of the best Sunday roasts in living memory, served by attentive, friendly staff in a stunning pub in the most beautiful location. Couldn’t recommend too highly.Service: 5/5
Great for lunch or a cosy stay over on Dartmoor. Delightfully old fashioned with fresh modern facilities and food.Service: 5/5
The food was absolutely delicious. We were served a complimentary amuse bouche. There was only one vegetarian option on the main menu but we made our own options from the starters and sides and had a taste sensation. We came here for dinner whilst stay at the Ilsington Hotel, which was a short starry walk away. It was a very atmospheric old pub and the staff where friendly
If you are looking for a memorable experience at a beautiful historic building, honestly, this is the spot. When my wife and I booked this place, we were just looking for a place convenient for hiking and lucked onto perfection. We ended up eating here 2 of the 3 nights, and that food was absolutely incredible and became a highlight of our entire trip. Every part of the experience warrants its own shout-out, but I have to mention the service and staff who were just a delight and fantastic. Thanks, and we will be back, im sure.
