Great location, worth a look. Free to walk around the outside bits, the inside exhibition is only 4.50 per adult and children go free! Lots of new bits in the exhibition this year. They always offer simple craft activities in half term which are good for younger children. Cafe nicely done and very reasonable. Eastbourne residents can get a visitors card for free visits all year after paying for one single entry. You can't go wrong :)

Great visit which is free unless you want to go in the museum. Kids had a great time playing and looking at the cannons. Nice views to be had on the top level and the cafe is reasonably priced.

Plenty to see for free, and well worth paying the small entry fee to see the exhibits and interior.

Excellent, fascinating place and the tour given by one if the Trustees was outstanding. Highly recommended so much history.

After a short look around I took an afternoon tour, which was informative and occasionally amusing. The tour guide had a habit of going off on tangents, but did a good job of framing the Redoubt Fort in history by the end. I didn't spend that much time in the museum, outside of the tour, but the projections of soldiers and other notable characters did a good job of making the history come alive. Note: It's free to go into the fort and the ramparts, including the coffee shop, but it costs £4.50 to go into the museum. The coffee shop, the Outpost, is in one of the casements and benefits from the both the ambience of the curved ceiling, historical decor and a number of comfy seats. A latte was £2, which was a bargain and much better than some of the more expensive coffee shops that are in town. The fort square is a great sun trap and has lots of picnic tables. I imagine it's a nice place for locals to visit in the off-peak soaking up the sunshine while having a drink. Generally, I'd say the fort works well as an enjoyable excursion for a few hours as long as you take a tour to make it worthwhile.
