I had heard from other regulars that the Red Lion had disappointed them recently. Having been a great enthusiast, I returned for lunch there today hoping to prove them wrong. Unhappily they were right. With one draft beer, a soft drink and two coffees, the two course lunch special for 2 came to 70 pounds, including the 'optional' service charge, which it seemed churlish to refuse. The food was bland and nowhere near the standards I have been used to there, and the cost seemed out of all proportion to the quality or even content of the dishes served: a few mushrooms and a little meat. Sad to see such a great place go downhill.

Lovely cosy pub, warm welcome and amazing food. Whether it's a full blown 3 course dinner or sandwich lunch everything is delicious and done to perfection. Eaten here several times now with visiting family and friends and it's our favourite venue...great wine selection and cocktails too! Thoroughly deserved Michelin star.

Delicious food, excellent service, and a great ambience. Particularly memorable this time were the crab cake starter, and the Cafe Gourmand dessert (pictured), which offers tastes of multiple desserts in one (plus your choice of coffee!).

I couldn't really fault the food here. The staff in the kitchen really know what they are doing. Front of house however has shortcomings. The waiter we had was what I can only describe as rude. We 'requested' a change to the food we had pre-ordered and he actually walked away tutting and shaking his head. I was stunned. We were then charged for an extra meal when we received our bill. When I requested that the extra meal was removed I also asked that the 'discretionary' gratuity, which is added to the bill 'automatically', was removed too. They did not question why I asked for the tip to be removed so I can assume they knew the service we received as inadequate.
