Signed up to climb Kilimanjaro in November 2015, leaving November 2016, from the start I found Really wild to be lazy in replying to any questions I had, each time I had a question I would either not get a reply or if I did it was a link to a web page where I could look up the information I needed, at one stage I asked what plug adapter I needed for the stay at the hotel where apparently really wild staff had stayed but no one could give me a answer, only a link to international plug adapters. The time had come for 24 of our guys to leave for Tanzani, we all turned up at Cardiff airport, really wild was supposed to send a representative to meet us but instead passed on all responsibility to the head of our group who actually worked for Tenovus cancer care, on arriving in Kilimanjaro we were transported to our hote where we had a overnight stay before leaving for the mountain. On arriving at the start of the walk I could see the amount of guides that were going to be walking with us and the various states of dress, it wasn't until we were actually walking with them I could see the real problems, like boots and trainers full of holes and even the soles of some falling off, tracksuite bottoms with rips and holes, these guys were goubg to be at just under 6000 mtrs in this gear so I was concerned. We had our own cooks on the mountain and these were going to provide all our meals for the duration however in the second day people started to get ill, all of a sudden the two toilet tents that were provided by Ashanti were started to have people queueing, realky wild challenges tried to stop us from having these tents and their reasons were "it's not fair for someone to carry a toilet tent up the mountain" Ashanti said it gave another porter a job who otherwise would be out of work, just another money saving scheme by really wild who actually only care about the money and not the ethical side they pretend to pride themselves on . Back to the food, as time went on more and more people were getting I'll, sickness and diarrhoea were affecting more of us, we were hardly at altitude yet so it was obviously the food, Ashanti done the best they could but for our western stomachs the hygiene was just too poor. As we got higher and higher the state of dress on the porters and guides was becoming more apparent, my guides feet were soaking and he was shivering, he had a pair of canvas shoes with a long tear in each where you could see straight through to his feet, I told him that on the way down he could have my new boots that I had purchased just before heading to Kilimanjaro, this made his day. Would I travel with really wild travel again ? Not a chance, they are a middle man who take the money and then your on your ownn, in fact I paid them £400 deposit to go to Brazil with them next year, I found them so bad I asked for my deposit back which I got told NO, so I would rather lose that £400 than have anything to do with them again, my reasons are because I can't deal with a company that claims to be ethical but sit up in a office in Scotland and don't have the first idea what goes on in country. I have traveled all over the world and really wild are without doubt the worse company I have dealt with.
