"If you are local to Bristol you probably will have noticed this established restaurant had closed its doors a couple years ago. The business had a long successful run of over 25 years until 2018 when the restaurant owner, Raj, decided it was time for a fresh new look. After some unexpected set backs, The Raj Mahal is back in business for late 2020.Raj embarked on his restaurant industry career in London, back in the late 70’s. Always aiming to please his customers, he built a great reputation and grew strong connections, which ultimately led him to Bristol in 1992 where the Raj Mahal began."

Loved the food, consistently great service, and comfortable family atmosphere. Always a highlight for my trips to Bristol!Food: 5/5
Lovely restaurant. Food and service were fantastic. Reasonably priced. We went just as it opened on a Tuesday evening so was quiet. More people would have contributed more to a good atmosphere. There was a roaring trade in take aways too. We will return to this gem
The food was amazing and service excellent! Nothing too much trouble. All 6 of us left having had a fabulous New Year’s Eve night. Thanks guys Parking: Was able park right outside
Probably the best curry in Bristol! We dined in & the service was excellent - a real treat. The restaurant is lovely too, I loved the booth seating & relaxed but refined atmosphere. We will definitely be dining at Raj Mahal again!!
Great atmosphere, fast and friendly service with attention to details. Delicious and well presented food at a very reasonable price. Will definitely return.
Good selection of curry, well cooked, tasty and very good value. Staff very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Only real downside was the lighting was very bright.Food: 4/5
It's a good job the food here is nice. We met family here on a Monday night. It was fairly busy but seemed understaffed!.. We waited nearly 45 mins before we were actually served! Then another 45-50 mins for our food. The attention and 'better service' seemed to be given at a larger table sat down into the resturaunt. I had asked the young lad that seemed to be a waiter for some more drinks and his reply was I clear tables and food, and said she will bring them, pointing too the lady at the bar. 20 mins later and still no drinks and no sign of this lady. So I spoke to another gentleman and explained id been waiting, cancelled the drinks and asked for the bill. He was apologetic and did take our 1 round of soft drinks off the bill.. just verypoor service unfortunately.
Welcome back to Raj and the Team! We’ve been regulars here since 1994! Great to have you back! A lot of people criticising the new layout but, time moves on! It’s bright, open planned and very well done, which is a nice refreshing change from the old skool dark booths from the 90’s! Food is absolutely on point as it always was, if there is something not on the menu just ask as they are very accommodating. Great thing about the Raj Mahal is that they open for lunch too from 12-2 which is lovely to sit and watch the world go by! Can’t recommend this establishment highly enough and look forward to seeing you soon!
Curry’s excellent however on this occasion the kitchen staff deemed this acceptable to be sent out to a customer. Half a popadom that looks like it’s been on fire at some point. I’ve ordered takeaway and ate in this restaurant a good number of times but maybe someone needs to keep a better eye on quality control. Tip if it looks like this don’t send it to a paying customer put it in the bin instead! This is the entirety of a single popadom as it came
Genuinely good Indian, you can tell that real care has been taken with the food. I ordered a king prawn tandoori and the prawns had been shelled properly and partly sliced to allow the sauce to infuse properly. It seemed to me like they’d been marinated for some time before being cooked and it was a really delicious dish. Such a refreshing change from the food that comes out of a lot of curry houses. The other curries we had were great as well and there was a real variety of tastes between them, again, very different to a lot of curry houses that just have a couple of different tinned sauces and put a few different things in them and call them different dishes. This was our second meal here and won’t be the last!
