As a single lady. I was not looking forward to having to change my car. Stephen at Portfield Car Sales could not have done more or looked after me better. I have had my new car for 6 months now. I even popped in when the head light bulb went after about 4 months to get advice on how to change it. They had a bulb to hand and replaced it for me at no cost. I recommended the garage to my friend and she brought a car there a couple of months ago She is very happy with it.

HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED BY THE AA OR RAC PRIOR TO PURCHASE! Having bought my car some 9 months ago I have had to replace the radiator and exhaust. Both had patch signs of patchy welding suggesting previous damage. This may have been the last owner but I felt buying through a dealer would mean I shouldn't need the car inspected prior to purchase. I would not use Portfield again.

I would never buy a car from this dealer again. I bought a small car towards the end of last year, there was a noise when driving it on the test drive which the garage promised would be fixed when I picked it up - it was an intermittent fault, but it soon became clear that it wasn't fixed. The garage did offer to listen to it again , which I was happy with, but said they couldn't hear anything - it is still doing it. The car was advertised with 12 months MOT, after driving it round for work, carrying clients I was required to provide the certificate for work, only to find, it had run our after 5 months and I had been driving round for a few weeks without one. The garage were disinterested until I approached auto trade for a copy of the original advert to prove it. I approached the garage again but was told I was argumentative and "hadn't I ever made a mistake?". The garage did give me £100 towards the cost of the £280 surprise MOT. The car also had a long standing oil leak. It was £500 to fix, the garage offered to fix it at cost price with the proviso that if there was any other issues, ie clutch that needed doing they would add that to the cost - I was doubtful about trusting them, perfectly reasonable in my my opinion, but not theirs, after the noise issue and the MOT, so took it else where. Having paid for it, and the new clutch as there was oil on it, the seal is now broken again. It transpires this is because of a larger fault with the car which was described by my trusted mechanic as "a friday afternoon job" The fault is unfixable without replacing the engine which is obvious more than the car is worth, and I am left with a debt I'm still paying off and a car that I can't bring myself to lumber someone else with. and can't fix. It's been a disaster from start to finish. No doubt the garage will have explanations for all these apparently individual misfortunes, and after the way I was spoken to when I complained last time, I am afraid to contact them, and I know it would be pointless anyway.Expensive lesson learnt though!
