First class food and service We popped into The Plough for a drink while on a country walk and it didn’t disappoint. A wonderfully traditional pub with great character. A Fire place in one room, a baby grand piano in another and the décor interesting. We spent an entertaining couple of hours having drinks and chatting with the friendly landlord, Chris. We had such a lovely time that we returned the next day for Sunday lunch. The food was all freshly cooked and to die for. I’ve been to several Michelin Starred restaurants and this lunch was up there! We can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you so much Rosemary and Chris Very for making our weekend. Warm regards Stewart
Some good ales on tap, plenty of space between 3 seperate drinking areas as well as a restaurant area. Apparently the ladies toilets are ornate :
I'll remember next time, when a local says to avoid somewhere, to listen! We were with the wedding party, and were advised by locals on more than one occasion to avoid this pub, in just a few hours! We joined the others thinking it can't be that bad...oh how wrong were we! We had travelled from South West Wales that day, had all showered that morning so didn't smell, contrary to what the owners have said... we were looking forward to a good pub meal before the big day the following day. We were greeted with this dark, dingy pub and the customer service echoed this! I have worked in retail and hospitality and never seen anything like it. Our 2 children were with us, our youngest is 8 months old and yes, requires a pram, we had no other paraphernalia with us, thank you. My 3 year old was very weary of the massive dog, especially as it didn't move and nobody cared less, we own 3 dogs so he's not afraid and it's not welcoming! If he spoke, it was only because of this. He certainly didn't scream or make a fuss! So I'm really not sure where the comment about the children was being fabricated from, the children with us were all impeccably behaved. There was no running around or screaming, never invent and publish lies about our children. The fact only fish was available...just ridiculous. For a start...fish is a high allergen, there should ALWAYS be an alternative for that reason. Check with the Food Standards Agency. We live in a very small village ourselves, we only visit small establishments, none with such stupidly limited menus and we have never received such a rude welcome, even with large parties! My friend did try to book but was unable to. If you had been apologetic and had said you simply couldn't feed us all, we would have understood and forgotten about it. We felt such an inconvenience, and I personally don't eat fish although would have happily just had chips if it wasn't for the way my friends were being spoken to by the woman behind the bar! and we made the decision to leave. I did not want to spend a penny of our money here. Or use your rest rooms, I'm not aware of anybody that did! We then went elsewhere, completely unannounced where we had stunning food and we were made to feel so welcome, even our 'screaming' children, who were once again amazingly behaved! Maybe we caught you on a bad day, however, being polite doesn't cost a thing. Looking at your reviews, however, this was not a one off. I have never given a small business a bad rating but I have to make exception. What an awful experience!
What a lovely little pub. Home cooked food and large portions. Who minds waiting a little longer for something home cooked and tasty. Lovely owners who took the time to talk to us on what had been a very busy lunch period. Limited menu at the time but still plenty to chose from. No kids menu as such but plenty offered children friendly or happy to make a smaller portion of an adults choice. Dog friendly eating area and treats offered which always wins our Labrador over. Only 2 ales when we visited but decent local ales so that was not a problem.
Had lunch and a few pints here while staying at Eaton Manor. The food was delicious and plentiful and the setting can only be described as a proper pub. The owners were helpful and had good craic. Plus it's dog friendly. If we ever go back to that neck of the woods we will definitely return.
I've lived in Shropshire for years but had never tried The Plough before. What a find, cute pub with really cosy decor - love the colour of the walls. The owners were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food, clearly cooked to order, was delicious. Looking forward to visiting again.
Go and enjoy a real English pub with fantastic hosts, Rosemary & Chris. We went twice over Easter 2015 and enjoyed the whole experience. Chris has several real ales and good wines and the menu is extensive covering everyone in terms of taste and budget. The pub is children and dog friendly and quite unique in the way it is decorated. With large and I mean large log fires, it is homely and you feel at ease as soon as you enter. Being a free house, there is always sure to be a range of beers on tap so real ale drinkers and CAMRA members should make sure the Plough is on their list. As Arnie said "we'll be back" and hopefully, sooner rather than later.
Came in here with family the night before my wedding. Never felt so unwelcome and a burden! Promptly left when the owner was very rude to my sister when trying to order food. Do not visit the plough Inn! Update in response to the owners reply... 1. I tried ringing the week before and the day before I unfortunately entered your establishment. However there was no reply or you were shut. 2. I did look at negative reviews for your so called pub but I thought you know what I want to support a local business so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt! How wrong I was!!! 3. Take over the bar! Are you kidding! The place was completely empty. Friday night and empty! Great pub you're running! 4. Having spoken to locals from the village and Church Stretton after our experience they laughed as soon as I mentioned the Plough. Locals avoid the the place at all costs due to the "weird and rude" owners. All they want is a friendly local pub they can visit and be a community in. The Plough is not the place to do this.... Literally can't wait for the reply I will no doubt get from the so called owners!
The best Sunday lunch we have ever had. Everything cooked fresh and using local produce. Great owners who did all they could to make our meal special.
I won't be giving the Plough my custom. The website says that it is open: Monday - Wednesday: Noon - 11pm, Thursday - Saturday: Noon - Late Sunday: Noon - 10:30pm but this afternoon after a long drive we had an incredibly rude reception when another customer phoned the pub from outside to find out why it was closed. Stating that 'I can't help what the website says' is not only poor business practice but rude. A quick apology and excuse would have been acceptable but rudeness is not. Our anticipated birthday party booking will be going elsewhere.
