I have been going to the pied calf for years and it is a lovely little pub. But recently, unfortunately the food quality and portion size has gone really down hill. It used be really nice food but now the portion size is what you expect for a kids meal and the freshness and quality of the food is not what it was... hope you sort the food out.
I've visited a number of Green King pubs over the years but this little bar in the town centre stands out from the crowd. Maybe that's because it appears to be an efficiently managed husband & wife concern. There's an L shaped bar to the front with a neat little beer garden at the rear. The beers are varied & averagely priced however it is the food that ranks this place. The chef husband is a really affordable guy as is his lady wife at the bar & seems to go out of his way to present your food in a thoughtful & appetising manner. That's half the job for me, an overloaded plate with food stacked up on it is an instant put off. I like to be able to see & access ALL of my food without having to move stuff around my plate & avoid having it fall off in the process. I ought to say that I visited the Pied Calf on a weekday in the early evening &. therefore can't comment on what it might be like at the weekends. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit.
It was very quiet but I do like the atmosphere as I have been before. Very nice place and very nice staff and fellow customers. Do definitely recommend a visit if you have not been.Food: 5/5
Absolutely love this pub. Great meals and drinks great prices and size. The chef always comes out and says hello. Just so friendly and warm. One of my favourite places to get food 110% recommend
Good food, good pleasant service but a little loud on the music side which is just preference, hence only 4 xs on atmosphere. Worth a visit at lunchtimes.Food: 5/5
Manager and bar staff were very friendly and helpful towards food customisations, made sure we were satisfied with the food, very reasonable price and the food arrived at a quick place.Food: 5/5
First time visit and will definitely return. Food was fantastic, cooked well and arrived quickly and a very friendly place.
Waited 45 minutes for our roast beef dinner and was very disappointed. Gravey was so thick it wouldn't pour, two slices of beef one of which was just fat. Very poor quality would not recommend or go again.
Thanks for taking my daughter in when I was having trouble with her, you all good boys here and very worldly wise fellas. Thanks for your support and scampi and chips. This place will go down as a bad memory of a bad time but the best service. I told her all her life a pub will always take you in and you did. Thank you. I will never forget that and the support you gave me as a parent. Pass on my regards to everyone. I really appreciate it, you know what I’m saying. No one could ask for more. Thank you
