This is a cinema with a difference. The cafe and art interests with which the venue is identified has made it a cool hang out place for people with diverse interests. The restaurant has grown by leaps and bounds. Yesterday, I tucked into a spicy Thai vegetarian dish which at £6 for a bowl full was enough to satiate my hunger. Fresh vegetables were served with wholegrain rice. In fact I liked it so much I went back today. They were out of rice but I was happy to try out couscous in place of the rice. I have not had couscous before to my mind and it was a good change from rice. I would say I am a little biased in favour of Phoenix. I have been a frequent visitor over the years. I would recommend it to anyone to try out the many things on offer.

This is a small cinema complex (although I recently heard there is an expansion plan afoot) so it has a cosy and intimate feel. It has a well stocked bar as well as a café/restaurant - both are located on the ground floor as are the two screens so it is disabled accessible with automatic opening doors at the entrance. There is a disabled toilet. There is a lift to the first floor where exhibitions and live events take place sometimes. I have been coming here for a few years and am frequently delighted to find them showing something long gone from the mainstream. For the past three years they've also ran a "Mystery Film" event once a month when, for £4 a ticket (used to be £3), a film which is kept a mystery up to the actual screening is shown . This event has proved so popular it quickly sells out and I have not yet been disappointed by what has been shown: Japanese anime films, French language films, black & white classics or obscure/neglected films from 15-30 years ago!

I love the Phoenix, cinema plus food and drink, it's awesome. It is a great place for the odd bit of live entertainment too (from time to time). A Sunday morning brunch cannot be beaten.

Not only can you see the latest films in a smaller more relaxed atmosphere. There's a cafe with food and drink, with a licenced bar. Proper evening out experience.

Only visited the cafe but it has become my regular with the lovely staff and fantastic vegan options. Great place to sit and do work. Free wifi. Light and airy place.
