I was told that the fish I wanted would out grow the tank I had in a year, by the young lad, with dreds. I said that's fine, I'll upgrade it in a couple of months, refused to sell me the two  fish I wanted - small goldfish (yes, 2, not trying to overcrowd and as standard, 2 fish per gallon of water -5 litres - is enough for them to be healthy, plus my tank has a pump, and activated carbon filter, I'm not new to coldwater fish keeping.) He was patronising from the start, didn't even bother to ask if I have experience, just assumed I knew nothing and my sarcasm went clean over his head. He interrogated me as if I were a criminal and he had every right to talk to customers like dirt.So, not only was this staff member a rude, patronising fool, he in effect called me a liar , by disbelieving that I would upgrade before it was needed and refused the sale. I had wondered why this Pets at Home was always empty when the other one is always busy, clearly, the jumped up, belligerent staff are the cause.  I'd avoid this place like the plague and go to an independant pet shop, where custom is valued and customer service is a given and the staff aren't petty tyrants. There are independents in very similar locations, one in Tilehurst, Pets and Plants on Armour Road, another in Whitley, Allsorts of Pets on Buckland Road. Keep it local! I certainly will in future as even the Pets at home vets annoyed me by trying to insist indoor cats need yearly booster vaccinations. The only place they could possibly pick something up is at a vets visit, so rather than trying to con me out of money every year, maybe trying cleaning more!

Expensive, you wait ages to be served and I don't trust the vets. They misdiagnosed my sons pet and it died a couple of days later. Wouldn't recommend.

Rude sales people. Ignored me. Had to ask for help. When I wanted to return something my dog wouldn't eat, I was told it had been opened they won't take it back.i told them it was guaranteed that PAH does do refunds they took it back. Never going to this pit again.

Good shop , but the don't sell fish. I have been twice I had to come back with empty hands. They are always short staff or staff is very easy going, god knows. First time I waited 30mins and left and 2nd time I waited 1hr to be attended. My understanding is that they should keep more staff. Working with short staff is stressful.
