Pedallers' Arms

About

Pedallers' Arms is a place to come and learn how to repair your bike.

Story

We are a co-operative of people, all volunteers, who want to help people fix up their own bikes in a relaxed and friendly space. The emphasis is on “anyone can fix their bike”. We have tools, books and time for you.

We are not a bike shop: we don’t fix bikes for you. What we do is teach people to work on their own bikes. Many people already know how to work on bikes, that’s fine too, we’re here if you need us but we’ll leave you alone if you don’t… unless you’d just like to chat.

Come drop into one of our sessions. We ask for a donation towards rent and wear and tear, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Check out our website for more information on membership etc. Thanks!

It was a great experience for me, the first-timer to do the bike. And the mechanics who support me were very nice and humble. I will surely back to this place to maintenance my bike with their guidance
Excellent volunteer run bicycle cooperative - they won't fix your bike themselves but will show you how to fix it, which pays dividends if you need to do the same job again! Everyone there is super welcoming and there's a wealth of knowledge available. Would thoroughly recommend going if you're looking to learn more about fixing bikes. They have pretty much every tool you could possibly need and have saved me hundreds of pounds in tools alone!
Very nice even tiching fixed bike
Very helpful got everything I needed at an accessible price. You can go get help to fix your own bike, empowering the customer rather than the top down approach you usually experience when needing owt fixing. A great bunch of folk, thankyou!
Learnt some new skills today with regard to cycle maintenance. A friendly and rewarding experience and A chance to learn how to repair your own bicycle. Hope they keep up the good work and get the support they need to keep this going for a long time. Many many thanks
A superb initiative: you fix your own bike, using their expertise and tools, learning as you go. Or if you already know what you are doing, just use their tools. Spares, cleaning agents, lubricants and consumables are very well priced, with used but good condition parts also available. Every area of cycling hardware knowledge is here, including internally geared hubs. At present, hydraulic brake bleeding and electric parts of e-bikes are not covered.
I went to the Peddlers Arms for the first time the other week, I felt really at ease there. I need a few things doing on my bike, but as I only got there at around 7 I only had time to do my Bottom Bracket. The lady who helped me was brilliant. I know a little about bike maintenance but have lots to learn and don't have much confidence with it. She was really informative and made me feel welcome and at ease. I'll definitely be going there from now on, I don't get much money so it's so helpful in that aspect too. A massive thumbs-up
This is a great project with highly knowledgeable staff. my only criticisms are that sometimes I have booked a slot and then somebody has turned up randomly and been prioritised. The concrete floor iis quite uncomfortable to stand on for long periods which could be easily solved with some rubber mats. It is in a convenient central location. It would be great if there was also a project around cycling safety; how to avoid an accident and dealing with the harassment that you can get in some parts of Leeds mainly from youths.
I went for a headset change they took one look and said you can go to a work bench, offered no help when I asked how or what to do they said it can be funny takes a while turns out I was missing one spacer. If you wear tracksuits or anything give it a miss they are very judgy you can feel it. They don't deal with Hydralic breaks only v brakes it's like being taken back into the 90s. I did still however donate 7+ bike wheels a few years back never been back since. Halfords are better that says a great deal.
Awesome people. Will show you how to maintain your bike and explain the ins and outs. I wanted to give a bigger donation but they refused to take it, very kind.
