Hi my name is Alexandra Thomas and I am a fitness instructor based in Tameside. I qualified in 2004 and have been teaching a variety of classes since. My passion however is teaching Pilates. Pilates is a program which can develop core and back strength, improve flexibility, increase muscle tone and improve posture. Pilates is a technique using flowing movements, with control and precision. It is suitable for all levels and abilities from an absolute beginner to an elite athlete. I offer a range of classes therefore to suit people’s individual needs and interests.
Mat Pilates: This class involves performing pilates exercises on the floor using a pilates mat. Basic pilates equipment such as a pilates ring, resistance band, or bender balls are sometimes used. Mat pilates exercises are performed in a slow, controlled, precise manner and require an intense concentration. These exercises help strengthen the body's core by developing pelvic and scapula stability, and abdominal control, using focused breathing patterns. The main fitness goals of a mat pilates program include improved flexibility, muscle tone, body balance, spinal support, low back health, sports performance, and body-mind awareness.
Trigger Point Pilates: Many of us suffer from pain from niggles to chronic through leading busy lives. We now spend our lives sitting in cars, in front of computer screens, texting and various exercise regimes which can cause pain. During this class you will discover how to undo muscular resitrictions, enhance functional movement and treat pain through a sequence of exercises using prickly balls, foam rollers, bands and bender balls. After the class you will have improved posture, less pain and will feel lighter and more relaxed.
Pilates Barre: This class combines ballet barre exercises, body conditioning and Pilates stretches for a total body workout designed to lift, tighten and tone!. It is a new concept which has just recently landed in the UK.
