Can’t believe I missed posting about this one until now, from June 2021. Definitely one of the top Caribbean restaurants in london. I think we had the oxtail, curried goat & Jerk chicken. To finish we had the chocolate cake & bread & butter pudding. All were really delicious and the service was great.
Came here for dinner last night and it was sooo good. Great vegan options and the plantain my favourite thing ever was divine. My boyfriend had the jerk chicken and ribs and was so impressed. Said the meat was succulent and flavoursome. Vegan chocolate served warm for dessert + strong and delicious cocktails. Such a great vibe in the restaurant and the staff big shout out to the lovely waitresses that served us are fantastic. Can't wait to come back!
Overall extremely enjoyable, skilled cooking and friendly atmosphere. Delicious jerk chicken - we have travelled from the other side of London to visit you today after the review from Mr Rayner, and your praise is well deserved. A bit disappointed that service was slow but I write from an empathetic place of many years working in the industry myself. May you have long and continued success in your business
This is a difficult review to write because this place has a great story and I wanted to like it. As a customer, it was a bit of a mess. We were given the worst seat there - the waitress knocked our food over etc but they still refused to move us to a different table. We had a booking and there were empty tables that we could go to. They then told us there would be a delay with our food. They tried to avoid taking our order due to the delay but we had to push for them to still put it through thankfully because it took an hour for other tables to get their food. The owner would repeatedly say that the delay was due to there only being two cooks in the kitchen who were very young think he said 15 so it would take a while because they were under a lot of pressure. I appreciate the sentiment, I really do, but frankly, it was emotional blackmail because they continued taking massive Deliveroo orders over £150 orders while the sit in diners had to wait. If they are that over capacity that the two struggling young chefs couldn’t keep up- then the owner should’ve stopped accepting Deliveroo orders to adjust. After all the waiting, awkward service and uncomfortable seating situation we expected the food to be worth it all. But it wasn’t- it was too sweet, the mac&cheese was over cooked and the jerk chicken was not jerk chicken. I wanted to write a review that truly considers this place as a small restaurant/business and unfortunately it didn’t live up to its expectations.
Went for dinner last night. The waitress, Angela, was really friendly and seated us right away. We ordered the chickpea curry and it had such great flavour. It was the perfect spice level. Warmed us right up on a cold rainy day. The mac and cheese was delicious as well. We got the bread pudding for desert. It was served hot and was very tasty. I had a nice time and would go back again :
Amazing carribean food. The short ribs really changed my life, curries were lit, everything had so much flavour. It’s quite hard to find a good carribean resto in London but this place banged. Service was also good and prices were fair. Will 100% be back !!
I’ve tried quite a few Caribbean places in London. But this place is miles way better than anything I’ve had by far. Seriously guys! Great service. Everything we ordered were banging. Meals were made fresh. All dishes were very hot even after we finished the starters. -Plantain was hot and slightly crispy on the outside. Very nice texture. -Roti has some curry powder in it? It’s a different Roti I had in Indian places. Love it. -Jerk chicken was spicy, Smokey, crispy.. meat was nice and yummy. Was too busy eating it even without rice. -Rice & beans. Tasty aroma, flavorful. -Curry goat; delicious herbs. Even the potatoes inside tasted so good. Still good after a night in the fridge. -Bread pudding with rum. OMG please try it. We were so full but still found it amazing. - - - - - - Second visit I ordered collection, food is still hot after an hour I got home! They have a paper bag without a handle, but the packaging is good. Nothing spilled. Jerk chicken is still Delicious after an hour, but it lost the crispness being in a bag for too long, also a bit juiciness in the white meat. Recommend to eat in the restaurant! Also I wish they give discount for collection order. - - - - - - - Third visit I had the curry goat, unfortunately it was a bit bland, not spicy at all, and just soso.. meat was not tender. I bought with my friend and told her how much I loved the dish. It’s a let down. :/ Ackee and saltfish was nice. Jerk chicken was as good as usual. I tried their chocolate alcohol soaked cake dessert, I think it’s ok, but after a few bites it has a bad aftertaste?
I rarely write reviews, but I am also rarely so impressed by a place. My partner and I had a sharing platter with jerk chicken and loads of sides. The food looked and tasted delicous. The gravy that came with it was literally so good that I almost cried with the first bite. I could drink it with a straw. The service was wonderful and warm. The only negative thing about the meal was it ending. YOU NEED TO EAT HERE.
Authentic Carribbean food! Really tasty, high quality food that doesn't hurt your wallet. Friendly amosphere and staff, a really pleasant experience. You won't regret visiting. The mini patties are excellent and the curried goat was really good too.
Open until the 16th Feb. Then we'll see what's next for this chef and local business owner. I hear the Cook Book is being released soon! I recommend the bread pudding and salt fish double wrap. Book ahead as seating is really limited in these last days. Staff are upbeat and showcasing their talents so hopefully they get recruited to other jobs once the business closes. #entrepreneurialspirit
