Service is very friendly and fast, and the menu has many classic pub food options (including four vegetarian choices, plus a vegan special when we went). Portions for some meals are massive (especially the ribs!). Choice of 7-8 real ales at the bar. Takes large bookings for dinner (over ten people) which is hard to find in the Lake District.

I ordered the chicken breast in peppercorn sauce with haggis & black pudding. The chicken was literally the toughest I've ever had in my life, I could barely cut it and didn't manage more than a couple of mouthfuls. The haggis, black pudding & salad were all fine/average.

Best pub in Keswick! Great selection of ales & proper 'home cooked' food. Dog friendly (& just generally very friendly if it comes to that....) Highly recommended.
