Lovely cosy pub but disappointed with the service today. Waited around 40 minutes for food, with a long wait between the first and last meals being served. Roast dinners unfortunately quite cold, smaller portions than expected for the price with meat quite fatty, and crackling too chewy to eat. Table by the door quite drafty, may be worth not having a table so close to the door in the winter months? Tried to raise issues with staff a few times but unfortunately seemed a little disinterested. Really lovely building with beautiful surroundings and nice cosy fire, would love to come back if service improved!
First visit in a while. The decor had changed drastically but not in a bad way. We were the only customers for most of our visit. The food was very nice but the portion size was pretty small. Overall OK but I wouldn't be returning anytime soon.Food: 4/5
Table of 7 yesterday, 6/7 main courses correct meals arrived. Cold peas with the fish and chips, had to go and get cutlery off surrounding tables so we could eat. 3/3 coffees were cold and went back to be remade. 2/3 desserts correct food arrived, sadly the crème brûlée had a crumble topping, as did the 2 apple crumbles, all 3 had been blow torched but ultimately just tasted of burnt crumble. Not impressed.
Ate there for first time in about 4 years due to last meal being dire. Unfortunately food was terrible to be honest. Chips tasted odd and my burger was handmade but very dry. Others in my group had fish and chips which made them all feel ill later. Also extremely expensive for what we got. Can't recommend at all for eating. Hope it improves. Edit: I appreciate your response but no malice intended. We were genuinely disappointed. Perhaps it was a one off and we just got unlucky.
Late lunch on a Saturday. Sat in the garden to enjoy the warmth of the sun after a long walk. We both chose the cod loin with aubergine masala and mango. The fish was perfectly cooked - soft flesh beneath crispy skin, the masala was just spicy enough to compliment the fish but the mango turned out to be a disappointing ‘mango chutney sauce’. I had asked for the meals to be served with another veg which turned out to be 2 small new potatoes. A nice plate overall but rather small for £22.50. The service was very disappointing. The young woman who took our order went twice to find answers to my questions and the response still wasn’t as satisfactory as it should have been. She appeared to know about the ale but very little about the food on the specials board. We sat at our table outside and after our food had been taken on a tour of the garden twice, it was eventually brought to us with no cutlery, so we had to wait and watch it get colder while we waited for cutlery which were brought in an afternoon tea size paper napkin. Nice boy but what happened to staff training? I went back indoors for the menu with the intention of ordering desert but no prices shown. So we paid and left only to realise that the apparently discretionary tip of 4.99 had been added without us being asked. We were not asked once whether we enjoyed our meal. The 3 stars are for the quality of cooking and the quaintness of the venue. My husband thinks this review is generous. My husband couldn’t wait to get home for a cuppa and a piece of cake!
We went into this pub for the first time last week while on holiday the owners had only been there a week before they were so welcoming and everyone made you feel so welcome they were amazing with my son he wanted to go there all the time and the food was amazing as well highly recommend Food: 5/5
Lovely location, food wasn't great. The pub is set in the most wonderful location and the beer garden overlooks the gorgeous thatched roof, green fields and the sea. I'd return for a drink any time! However the food was a different story. The chef seems to have pretentions of grandeur. His own gluten free battered fish was greasy and flavourless. Burgers were served in bagels the hole in the middle was an issue. The mackerel was undercooked. I'm all for adventurous cooking but this simply didn't work sadly. Keep it simple and make it tastier!
Went for a meal with friends. Sat outside in a pod which was really nice. Lovely pretty surroundings. We all had the special, Jack fruit and Chickpea curry. Very nice and tasty! The disappointment was the dessert . For £7.50 what was supposed to be sticky toffee and ginger pudding. Was more like a dried cake, with a little drizzle of toffee sauce and ice cream was so disappointing! Would definately recommend it here but not the desserts .
Lovely country pub but size of portions of food small for the cost.
Had a lovely Sunday roast here with my 2 large dogs staff were lovely
