Old Parsonage Hotel

About

From November 1st '13 work started on a full refurbishment to include the creation of five new bedrooms & a roof top library. Reopening March '14.

Story

Twenty five years ago Jeremy Mogford purchased the lease of this guest house built in the 1600s restoring its original features to create a luxury hotel in the city centre. We continue to take bookings throughout our temporary closure for March onwards by telephone and email. If you would like accommodation before then we would highly recommend our sister hotel the Old Bank. For breakfast, lunch & dinner we can recommend our sister restaurants Gee’s and Quod, both are a few minutes walk from the Parsonage.

Great hotel with some of the most friendliest staff I've ever met in all my travels. Always smiling and delivering the best possible customer service. Food in their dining hall was great. Enjoyed the room I stayed in. Has parking. Close to everything you would want to see in Oxford.

Their restaurant is probably the best restaurant in Oxford! Ticks all the boxes. Attractive, comfortable decor, very tasty food, great wine list, attentive staff. You enter through the old low door to be greeted, in cold, wet weather, by a roaring open fire. The food is comforting British and the specials are very special - I had a locally sourced, meltingly tender braised beef dish. They also do a gorgeous, generous afternoon tea. Very easy to get to from the centre of Oxford. We're always surprised at how difficult it is to find a really good restaurant in Oxford and are delighted to have discovered The Old Parsonage. Great for couples (romantic or otherwise), smaller groups of friends and perfect if you need to take your Aunt out for lunch. Highly recommended!

Came and experienced the High tea on my Birthday. Was lovely inside, staff were friendly, high tea was great however they weren't clear on the portion sizes so we ended up with way too much. We preordered a special occasion birthday dessert which we received (shame it was exactly the same deserts as we had with our high tea so a bit of an overload). The plate read "Happy Anniversary" which was a bit of a shame. We had a good laugh though. Would go back!

Fabulous, is all I can say. Worth a stay on the merit of its elegant dining room alone, its walls covered with the most attractive oil paintings, the owner's private collection, most from the early 20the century. It is an authentic, old manor, with a fire place, and a new addition where the rooms are located. It has a great library room one can borrow books from. We spent a couple of magical days there in Christmas. Our room was very cozy, clean, classy and had ample space to do my Yoga practice. We had a great dinner there on our first night. The room came with a free tour of the city (do tip the knowledgeable guide!). The hotel is a ten-minute-walk from the train station, and the centre of the town, but removed enough that one doesn't get into the hustle bustle the moment one steps out of the hotel. The service is impeccable. The only complaint I could make is as usual there wasn't enough hot water to fill the bathtub, but it is more the norm than the exception at other luxurious lodgings around the world as well. Don't forget to take a stroll through Jericho district, where there are some great restaurants and it's very nearby. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

We had a lovely stay, as always! The location is perfect, just a few minutes walk from the city centre. Our room was delightful, spacious and comfortable, with incredible underfloor heating and lovely amenities (bath and shower gel smells delicious, by the way). We enjoyed breakfast in our room also, which helped to demonstrate both how delicious the food was as well.as how pleased we were with the level of service offered by the staff. A big thank you to all! We will be back!
