Went to see Soft Play tonight. What a great venue. The staff in the VIP bar were so friendly and the security team and people on the door couldn't have been more friendly. One guy in particular, I think he was called Tani was above and beyond helpful. Generally a very good vibe. Thank you Brixton.
This was our first visit to this iconic venue and we were immediately impressed by the grandeur of it. It isn't the traditional o2 academy. Plenty to look around at whilst waiting for bands to play. The best part coming from a short person is the sloped floor which made it a lot easier to be able to see the stage, even with taller people in front! Toilets near the stage are another bonus of this venue. We will definitely be back here!
Great historic venue to see Janelle Monae's outstanding performance. She and her band gave their all - visuals, sound, and fan involvement were amazing. We arrived early so avoided any queuing and staff were very good. The travel stewards were super helpful and offered unrequested support because they spotted my sister had a knee injury.
Large enough to attract major popular bands I saw Royal Blood. Sound and lights are good. The seating on the balcony is a little cramped in Row A. No draught beer. Everything is served in bottles. Security is OTT as an overreaction to previous incident.
I have had some amazing times here in the last 2 decades, but the place isn't that anymore. Posting this while waiting for the gig to start. The queue is now enormous, stretching all the way around the block and some. When it says restricted view. It really means restricted. That staff though is friendly and efficient.
Absolutely epic venue. Staff all helpful and understanding and queuing is flowing. No negatives. Saw Royal Blood and the quality was amazing and view from front row balcony is awesome.
When Brixton Academy goes off, it's a special night. They shoehorn people into the place. The downstairs standing area is sloped and packed solid, right back to the bar as capacity is based on fire exits, not comfort. You will get stepped on, and you will get squashed. It's all part of the experience. If you see a band playing there you like, go. You won't be disappointed as an atmosphere like that draws the best out of performers.
Lovely venue, and I love the way the venue is arranged with the higher and lower levels to see the stage but the slop on the bottom floor is dangerous. I understand there isn't much they can do as they have already put a couple yellow barriers in to stop this but the crowd-crushing, if you're at the front, is real. So just be warned if you are near the front then you will be moved.
the floor is uneven so you can see the stage from anywhere. sound is good too. cloakroom for £2
Black keys gig was great. Great venue. Great staff all round. Good selection if drinks plenty of bars to get it from minimal queing. Had a great night. Thanks to all involved in set up *****
