Simple country hotel with bar and roaring fire. I have only ever eaten here for lunch. They normally have a real ale from Allendale Brewery on tap, plus Guinness and a few lagers. The Allendale beer is very good quality so its recommended you try it. Food menu's are pretty staple pub classics, however it is hand made to order and of good quality. I can recommend both the homemade pies and handmade burgers - both delicious. Place is also child friendly if you have the little ones with you.

The staff are very friendly and helpful but there aren't enough of them. The first night's dinner took ages because there weren't enough staff so we didn't eat there on our second night. The breakfast was really lovely. Our biggest problem though was the room. It was probably lovely once but its getting tired and it's not being cleaned properly. However, the bathroom was worst. There was a lot of black mold round the bath and all through the grout lines between the tiles - not good. (Room 18). I get the feeling that the 'owners' are just investors and don't take any real interest in the business. They've definitely taken their eye off the ball.

A very nice pub and food, rooms aren't anything to get excited about but perfectly serviceable and decent value.
