The first contact didn't start well. From making an online booking to turning up at the restaurant, I received 4 emails and was unexpectedly charged £10 in advance. This was later taken off the bill. After that, the experience was near faultless. It has beautiful views of open countryside from the back. The interior is tastefully decorated and has a great, warm atmosphere. Some of the tables enjoy the beautiful views. The menu was nicely balanced, with a good variety of dishes. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free are marked on the menu. Service was top notch, polite, professional, and efficient, throughout the meal. The food was of a really good standard, nicely cooked, seasoned, and presented. We thought the portion sizes were about right. We'll happily be making a return. Vegetarian options: Several options were marked on the menu. Kid-friendliness: There's a children's menu and they seem accommodating. Wheelchair accessibility: The main door to enter may be a little snug. Inside there's a level area of seating. There seemed to be enough space between tables. The only toilet I noticed was down two small flights of stairs. I would contact them beforehand to check.
The Nelson has been back and forth between different owners over the last few years, but it has found its moment now. The food and service is superb and prices on par with many other restaurants in this area. Staff very friendly and attentive. Even though it was a midweek lunchtime the dining area was busy and the comments of fellow diners were in-line with our own, regarding the quality of the food. In the warmer months I can see the outside dining area hidden round the back away from the A59 with its open field views being a major attraction. Highly recommended experience and suggest booking rather than turning up on spec. Parking: Sizeable parking available and access directly from the A59.
Easter Sunday visit. Great staff, great atmosphere and some great food. As a vegan I was so well catered for. The Nut Roast is without question the best I have ever had. Genuinely so moist and yummy. Other dishes failed to reach such standard. Bang Bang Cauliflower was a bit sour and my partners Cheese pie was so salty, but exchanged with no fuss and great apology. A well run pub. I would return even if it was just for that Nut roast!
Arrived at 6.45 on a Sunday evening we booked. Waited at the bar whilst 1 other person was served before us. In that time whilst we stood there some drinks tickets came through, the bar man then started making them drinks instead of greeting or serving us even though we had been stood there a fair few minutes and weren't even acknowledged. Once seated service was slow to take our order considering it was very quiet. Food was excellent 10/10 in the chefing department. We had all 3 courses. Lovely waitress who took over looking after us and she could not be faulted! Would definitely go back and just hope for better service.
Really impressed with this place. Use to come here as a child , it's had many owners over the years but I think the people that have taken over done a great job! The food was lovely. The interior is lovely, very classy. The staff where lovely. They gave me the gluten free menu which was nearly the same as the normal one, so many options. My sausage and mash could of done with abit more gravey, but will definitely be returning! Dietary restrictions: Massive gluten free menu!
The place itself was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and modestly priced. The ambience was warm and welcoming. To be highly recommended.. Thank you Lord Nelson
Called in yesterday teatime on the off chance there was space for us and thankfully there was! The interior is beautiful but the food was the star!! The braised lamb was very tasty and all the veg with it perfectly cooked and balanced! My sister was very impressed with her fish pie, too! The allergies menu was very informative and appreciated. I gather this is a new venture and want to wish you all the very best!
I booked Sunday lunch as a treat and to see how this new pub/restaurant on my doorstep rated. After Valeting cars local to Hampsthwaite to a very high standard, I know what "special"is and we found a great all round experience at The Nelson. Well done.Food: 5/5
First day of opening. Looks amazing. Great choice of beers and wines. Not tried the food yet but the menu looks good. Will be back soon.Service: 4/5
I enjoyed going to the Nelson Inn with friends and we enjoyed it so much i took my mum and Auntie a few days later. We were very impressed. The interior is very classy, clean and a nice atmosphere. The staff were brilliant. And the food is very good. I highly recommend the Nelson Inn. Prices are on par with other restaurants i would say. Good car parking.
