We brought our 6 month old son here when he became ill during a holiday. All of the staff are a credit to this hospital. Yes we had a wait, but it was considerably less than if we had been at our local hospital. All of the staff were friendly despite the full waiting room and several people asking how much longer they might need to wait. As well as the triage nurses they had a sister out in reception triaging patients who was so lovely and reassuring to everybody. A really nicely run unit. Thank you
I don't usually write reviews, but the care I received here following gastric surgery warrants the best one. This not only comes from a human perspective, but also as a retired nurse myself! Every single member of staff were kind, caring and supportive, which I have not come across in my local hospital. There were plenty of staff and although I only spent 48hrs there, I could tell it was somewhere I would recommend to others. Thank you all for an excellent stay.
I was unfortunately taken ill with severe pain while on holiday nearby. I was directed to attend Musgrove A & E by 111. From the moment I entered the department I was overwhelmed by the kindness & professionalism of all the staff - from receptionists, nurses, HCA’s & doctors. Yes, I had a wait as they were obviously busy but the care I received really was 1st class. I had to return to the emergency assessment clinic the following morning for further tests & again I was treated with great care & professionalism. I was blown away by their caring attitude & felt so grateful. Thank you so much from one very satisfied patient.
My 78 year old Father was diagnosed with sepsis and we were told to call an ambulance to get him to hospital ASAP. The ambulance call handler informed us that it would be over 8 hours of more before the one NHS Austin Allego ambulance could be started! so we were asked to take him on the bus, or drive him. We were then instructed to drive him over 90 miles to Musgrove park hospital. Upon our arrival treatment would begin to control the infection, and a vascular procedure would also take place. We have been here for eight hours! My father was sat under a poster saying “sepsis every second counts” He sat under this poster, with sepsis for over three hours before being moved to a different chair, above which was a poster saying “we understand how you are feeling” He was the. Moved to a bed, but still not treated….. and now we are told that it could be a further five hours before he is treated. And the hospital is filthy… I’ve been sat in the same area for several hours and no one has cleaned, what is a very dirty area All the staff walk around texting on their phones, it’s a disgrace, it truly is.
Could not fault the staff, they were amazing. On holiday nearby and unfortunately had to bring my 3 month old into A&E twice as recommended by 999 and was given excellent treatment by all staff who helped, 3 especially who not only made sure my son was 100% but also reassured me when I was getting Anxious.
Had sepsis they forgot about me in A&E bed , medication for drip was left beside me for 4 hours before anyone noticed. Whilst on MAU canula failed meaning I was not getting my medication. I had to mention blood on hand and fact that I felt something was wrong as African nurse looking after me showed no interest whatsoever on any of her patients in her care. I only mention her heritage as I have no other way identifying her. Her Attitude when I mentioned this was as if “ so what what do you want me to do about it”. Early in the evenings he had refused to change her break time for another staff member, this meant the other staff member didn’t get a break! The same nurse was also in my view verbally abusive , dismissive , disrespectful and aggressive towards the older lady who was in the bed next to me. The lady obviously was suffering from a UTI so was confused and did want the loo a lot , but no care , reassurance or empathy was shown her. It is my view that this nurse should not be anywhere near any patient. Two ward staff attempted to re-canulate me , they tried 6 times each time telling me my vein had collapsed. I’m not afraid of needles but by the 6th attempt , I felt I was going to pass out. Dr came to see me said that not to worry about not getting medication from drip until the morning. I did say that the consultant had said it was very important that I have full course of fluids prescribed which included my diabetes medication , antibiotics and normal fluid over next 24 hours . The doctors response was you can’t stay in a drip all your life !!! I was speechless , but I did not back down stating that I had sepsis and that this was causing my blood sugar to be irratic. I awoke to another staff member re-canulating me who had no issue at all getting a vein. It would seem the patient was right rather than the on call doctor - this is just ridiculous and down right worrying . If I had not questioned that doctor I could be dead now. I have spent a lot of time in MPH as have close family members. Over the last 12 Months I have noticed that they hardly have any nurses who’s first language is English . I have no issues with having a multi cultural staff base - the issue and concerns I have is when staff can not communicate with patients or even work colleagues owing to language understanding and difficulties. You also need to have empathy. Regardless of nationality if you do not have these basic skills you should not be practicing. I spent four nights in MPH and I did not feel safe , I am not easily scared and I have a family member who works in the hospital. They were shocked but sadly not surprised by the various failings of my care. They spend most of the time rectifying the mistakes of staff who should not be on ward. They as staff do not feel safe working with a lot of the new staff , many who have been appointed from abroad without even a face to face appointment. I would never put of choice go back to MPH I would ask to go 30 miles further to the RD&E. there staff regardless of heritage seem to have full command and understanding of the English language , have empathy and are brilliant at job. MPH it’s so sad to see you going down hill in such an awful way. Of course there are fantastic staff at the hospital, but they are leaving for a reason - sort out your recruitment. Listen to what your staff are trying to tell you!
I think I’d rather suffer at home than ever experience the rudeness of any of the NHS Staff here again. And these people want a pay rise? For what? Taking over 8 hours to put fluids in my arms and was given no paid relief in the mean time even though I was visibly loudly crying in pain in waiting areas. I had a cannula in my arm for over an hour for no reason and my whole arm was bright blue which over 20-30 nurses/doctors walked past and visibly saw not a single person asked if I was ok. It wasn’t until I called my mum in distress telling her to get my Nan to sue for neglect someone walked out the office right in front of me to ask if I’m ok! Even though I had been sat outside this room for over an hour loudly crying in pain. How can I have my blood taken and not a single person in the room spoke to me? If you don’t like your job quit. Expect a pay cut not a pay rise. Everyone’s attitude made my illness a million times worse so thanks for that.
This has been my first experience of needing hospital appointments for myself and I can’t rate MPH highly enough. Lovely staff, quick appointments, great communication and generally a fantastic service I feel privileged to have access to. Thank you!
I was rushed in to there from Nuffield Hospital and needed an emergency operation. I can honestly say the care & treatment I received from the ambulance crew, to the surgical admission unit, CT scan department, theatre, intensive care unit and eventually montacute ward where I was put for a few days after intensive care before being discharged. My consultants Mr Welburn & Mr Noble were all honesty excellent and they truly saved my life. I will be eternally grateful.
Diabetic patient 68 year old left in surgical assessment reception until he was so dizzy he fell off his chair as was told not to eat, then was left in blood spattered clothes for 3 days. Staff on ward give derogatory nicknames to patient. Patient says food is inedible and sleep due to noise is zero , so despite a toe amputation is ringing home at midnight in tears to be released. Communication with patient regarding procedures very confusing and as this is a ward that is not listed on the website no phone number given to contact ward to speak to anyone about our concerns. Have had several bad experiences with this hospital and their complaints department will ignore anything negative said to them.
