I ordered a pork and stilton pie. I asked for it to be heated. The lady said "sure, and then we'll wait for it to cool down again, because you eat this cold". Some could find her slightly rude but I loved the sarcasm. The pie was absolutely delicious and the best one I've had so far. I still think you could heat it and it would also be delicious, as the fat would loosen and make it juicy.
I'm involved in running a pork pie appreciation society. Today we had our Xmas meeting. One of our regular amateur bakers was unable to make the meeting, but decided to submit 2 of your pies via a friend. I have never tasted anything so disgusting. The pastry was soft and anaemic, and the meat content was poor. How you can call it a Melton Mowbray pork pie I'm uncertain? If it's made anywhere near Melton I would reconsider your choice of baker. If. It's made anywhere else, likewise resource your baker. The pies were disgusting. That definition is being complimentary. I attach an image of a proper pie brought to our meeting by an amateur baker. Please take note of what a pie should look like!!
First pork pie for this American. It was much more dense than anticipated, but very tasty! Made for a great meal while walking all around London. We also got a scotch egg, which was equally good. The woman behind the counter was quite helpful! We asked her whether we needed to eat these warmed, to which she informed us, "Oh you mustn't."
The lady behind the counter was over the top kind and took her time to explain some history behind the famous scotch egg. Nothing fancy but it was worth it to give this item a try.Food: 4/5
I wanted to try traditional pork pies so I stopped by to grab one. After getting it I wasn't so sure about it since it was cold. However, I pressed on and ate it anyway and it was delicious. The crust was crispy and crumbly and really tasty. The filling was meaty with juicy jelly, which went well with the crust. Although I had my doubts it was gone after taking a bite. Definitely worth a try.
Terrible service from this lady, I politely asked for a pie and mentioned that I'd like it to go. She began shouting at me for no reason, calling me an idiot and insisting that it was obvious everything there was for takeaway. The young lady who ordered in front of me was treated with courtesy and asked if she wanted to dine in or take her order away. It was incredibly humiliating, an arrogant woman mistreating people without any cause. I regretted my purchase there; there were other places and unfortunately, I made a terrible choice buying from a bitter and prejudiced woman. I checked the reviews on TripAdvisor and Google, and there are comments similar to mine. I do not recommend this place, especially if you're in London just for a visit. Respect for people is the bare minimum. If you're in a bad mood with life, stay at home and don't work in customer service.
I have to leave 5-star to counter the negative reviews on here. The lady isn’t rude, she was very lovely and smiled back at us. Kindly informed us that she took cards only, not cash. The pies and pasties were delicious and eaten at room temp or “cold”, depending on when you visit just as they ought to be according to the traditional cuisine. When leftovers were reheated with an oven at low temp, they tasted great as well! Be open-minded and give this place a try!
Good ratio of meat/jelly/pastry. Pastry is crisp and light, and filling nicely flavoured. Top pork pie! Also recommend the black pudding scotch egg! Shame the lady has to ask folks if they know it's meant to be eaten cold, but makes sense given the other grumpy reviews on here...
Always get myself a pork pie from here when I'm visiting London. The medium pie for £7.50 is good value for money. The miserable lady wasn't there today but I sort of miss her now. For the Americans - Pork pies are supposed to be cold, jelly is not the same as fat. Educate yourself before leaving one star reviews for a great little business.
I'm afraid I have to downgrade my 5 star review. The staff as always are amazing but unfortunately the quality of the pies has dropped. The pastry is not what it used to be I don't know if this is because they bag them up to soon after cooking but its definitely lost something in the texture which is what put Mrs Kings above other pies. Also the filling is not as tasty as it used to be, its a shame but it seems something had changed and its not for the better.
