I love being part of the experience at MAD; I'm currently on the Intermediate class and I can't wait to hopefully progress onto the advanced level. The teachers here are so skilful and friendly and I have really enjoyed being in their classes. Definitely worth a recommendation :)

I have attended a variety of courses at MAD ongoing over the last 4 years, during this time I have been in productions performed at Liverpool Unity Theatre working with a fantastic director who also teaches at MAD. Other courses have lead to performances at Liverpool Lantern Theatre. There are courses at MAD for all different levels, some are more skills based to help people gain the confidence to progress to other courses which then also involve rehearsals working towards a showcase. MAD provides professional training in a friendly environment.

I first attended the 'Acting for Beginners' course 2 years ago. It was very informative and a great introduction to acting for those of limited or no experience. I went on to do the 'Devising for Theatre' (which is now the intermediate) course and learnt a great deal of information regarding, not just characterization but also writing and plot techniques which have come in useful whilst writing my stand up routines. Due to the Academies links with local theatre some of the students were selected to appear as extras in 'Evita' at the Empire which was a fabulous experience.I also completed the 'Acting for Camera' course which has proved invaluable in helping me land parts in locally shot movies. The courses are well run, the students and staff always friendly and helpful and I've made some great friends. I returned earlier in the year on the advanced course which culminated in a production of 'Candleford' that ran for 2 nights at the Unity and received good reviews from local critics. All in all recommended to anyone interested in acting for fun or to move onto more serious things. I have appeared in several productions since joining MAD including several short films and a TV advert, none of which I could have done without the knowledge I gained from MAD. Sure, there are things that could be improved but the staff are receptive to any ideas and lots of changes have been made since I started 2 years ago.

Whilst the idea behind the school is really good and it's website and facebook page leads you to believe that this Academy gives you good grounding in the performing arts. Then I have to say there are better out there at a fraction of the cost and more quality teacher's. The classes lack adequate seating and anywhere to leave bag's & coats it just seems this Academy/school has been created primarily for money and not the development & betterment of your acting career. There are no certificates issued and no formal qualification given at the completion of the course. Whilst the course may be good for helping to develop your esteem that is all they will provide. The beginner's course is led by a teacher from the local Art's college and they play silly name games, when you have only just been introduced to everyone and cannot remember names, plus they do not issue warnings at the begging that if your infirm or have difficulty bending then to avoid certain games & activity's. It's the lack of attention to detail that is apparent and a could not care less attitude. The Intermediate class is no better with a tutor whom lacks or fails to get control over the more stronger characters of the group, thus leading those weaker, more shy types left in the background. The tutor does nothing but leave the group to their own devices. You have no consistency in the classes, perform tasks that are only performed in one class. Exploring character's consisted of talking about love & hate and breaking into groups to perform the two themes. And that is it!! The end of the term drama for the begginers & intermediate & advanced is performed in the upstairs room of some local pub, and each group has 10mns to perform.... NOT QUALITY at all. But a scam. You would be well advised to go elsewhere for your training. But not shools & Uni's!! There are some really good Am. Dram groups out there where you get more for less money...so check them out. Frankly I would not even bother and would advice to err on the side of caution with this MAD having learned from bitter experience. STAY CLEAR!! SPEND YOUR MONEY WISELY AND ELSEWHERE.
