The staff here at mellmead house really are disgusting people who really do treat patients/service users like animals. The reason for this is total lack of accountability. Non of the staff are accountable. I used to work here and we were told to ignore patient complaints. One staff member told me to even tell patients to F off if the waiting area is empty as patient wont be able to prove anything. ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION: Why cant we wear body cameras inside this facility to video record staff behavior with patients? Why cant we record phone calls etc? Every patient should record all calls with staff members and where possible video record that staff behavior and attitude. Have patients noticed that the display board of the senior staff with their name and photo has been removed? This is so that patients cant hold individuals to account. These staff are paid via peoples taxes yet we cant identify who they are! Some of the service users should get together and form some sort of patient group. Collective voice should be organized.
I have been twice last year for appointments only to be told that the physical health check clinic has stopped so I had my annual leave and time to go. Then, for another appointment I called to check whether it was telephone or face to face, the receptionist told me it’s face to face, so again took annual leave went to Mellmead House to find out that the psychiatrist was working from home and was a telephone consultation. I think the service here has really changed since covid and the admin staff don’t know what they are doing.
The psychiatrist I was assigned left. I was not informed about this. What did Mellmead House do? They discharged me without even telling me about this. I would have never realised that Mellmead basically tossed me out to die if I hadn't called them to find out when I was due a next appointment. I think this establishment should be shut down. The way they manage people with severe mental health problems is frankly dangerous. I am sure they are secretly hoping that we will all one day off ourselves so that they will have less administrative work to do.
Please don't be fooled by the pleasant greenery and log cabin surroundings. After all this is [still] a double secure door entry psychiatric facility run by the NELFT where you will immediately upon gaining access find something is a bit off with this place. For example, having to [always] shout your full name and date of birth to the receptionist through a gap in the thick plexiglass because of the lack of a working intercom to speak normally - well they already view you as crazy regardless of your individual history once you step foot inside so this initial experience in reception just makes it easier for them to validate that and set you up for feeling weird before your appointment. If you're lucky enough you may get to witness some ill-behaved patients/customers of the mental health system who may make you feel uneasy about yourself in comparison while you continue to wait for your appointment. After a short wait in the exposed waiting area with big brother CCTV keeping an eye on your every move one then proceeds to receive voluntary outpatient services namely gaslit consultations with locum Shrinks who are ready to unleash their God complexed opinions presented as facts in their deceptively polite manners on you ultimately making inflexible decisions on your behalf regarding your continued mental health aftercare in less than 30 minute so-called "review" meetings you may have waited 3 months or longer for. What usually started out with the best of your intentions to attend for some real and useful prescription advice from a supposed expert will likely end up as a relative waste of your time if you're just going to be told to "not rock the boat" i.e. to remain drugged up perpetually with no end date. Don't be surprised if you feel like you didn't get the outcome you were expecting. These ill-trained counterfeit doctors practicing a hoodwinked form of social control care very little about getting you off the psychotropics they will continue to prescribe regardless of your private accomplishments, or good citizen behaviour that may have developed with maturity over time. In short, once a patient, always a patient to them or customer of big pharma whom they collude with. In conclusion, I would not recommend this somewhat intimidating facility and it's counterfeit doctors or [evil] psychiatrists to give a rat's arse about your continued aftercare plan which will already be more of their default prerogative to blame you and your supposedly real brain disease for everything and perpetually recommend that you either have your psychotropic drugs upped or changed with no recourse to getting deprescribed safely and timely to get back to a full state of recovery from one's ex-Soviet-like entrapment and punitive mistreatment by a tainted mental health system that disregards and disavows those who think critically in a profoundly sick society who got inadvertently diagnosed with a counterfeit lifelong "mental illness" for some temporary ill-behaviours long since passed.
The environment is peaceful and quiet the reception is manned by unprofessional staff who use their mobile phones while working which has made me wait years they don't know the staff members names and don't let them know that you have arrived promptly because of being distracted by personal affairs. The therapist is privately sourced so you feel as if they are tired and unprepared for your session because they travel there. You feel as if you are taking the lead and that they haven't read your file or previous notes. The doctors are great but are engaged in hospital work and only go there to see YOU The social worker's are lovely but again not based there so there is no CONTINUITY OF CARE the minute you miss a call or appointment you are taken off the records and you have to be referred back which is a crying shame! Trainees are invited to YOUR appointment and while efficient they remain detached from your case and mess up EVERYTHING FOR YOU BY FLYING BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS TO RELAY MESSAGES TO ABSENT STAFF BY EMAIL. I HATE THEM!!
This center is not fit for purpose and they deal with many vulnerable people who have no choice but seek support from this awful service. It was my first time that I had used their service for MH support. The receptionist asks you to tell your dob when you attend for your appt, no regard to personal data info, in front of other people in the reception! They see you quite late often over 30 mins late for your appt, despite asking you to be on time. There's no complaints info displayed if you're unhappy with the service, so you don't make a complaint! The staff for my appt, never introduced herself as to who she was, until I asked her, in the middle of my assessment. Embarrassed, she responded she would have told me later. God knows why there is no accountability. Poor staff attitude towards patents as though they're doing voluntary work. Staff feel they're not accountable and they're doing a favor for you. There's no review of Mellmead House in the NHS Mental Health services website and I tried to put a review but it doesn't get published!
the service is so bad i sent 15 years under them and had so many doctors and care co when i moved into normal living in the comunity i was sent back to my GP having wasted such a long time when i could have being out working making friends having fun and going traveling they dont understand people with anxiety and depression there just want to focas on the mentaly ill who cannot live normal lifes like someone like me who has anxiety but manage to do things like having holidays and making friends, they did not like my middle class background and the fact i had a good family and suppport network. i wish i did not have any problems like anxiety, i dont think i want to work as a staff member, let a lone be a service user
I’m going to write this to really give you the experience I had. I went to my doctor in a desperate state and he refereed me to Mellmead House. I waited and waited for a very long time and then eventually got an appointment. The assessment took place and then I waited once more. It took an extremely long time to hear back. Eventually the appointment came and again an other assessment. This went on and on. They simply did not know what they were doing and he’ll to help me. Or to palm me on to someone else Then the day came when my dad found me on the floor and rushed me down there, I was a state, needed urgent help, I mean if I’d had a heart attack I wouldn’t be sent away. Why is a mental health emergency any different. Can you answer me that? Luckily I had come in to a little bit of money and was admired to The Priory, I’m not saying their care was brilliant. It’s all about the money however they knew what I needed and I spent 5 weeks in there getting better. But the after care of being in hospital was expensive and guess what, I was still waiting to hear from Mellmead House. Then the appointment came but I was so confused and wasn’t sure I believed in them so I missed it and now have been discharged. I’d have to start the whole blooming process again so no help from the NHS who are understaffed and underfunded they can’t afford mental health care. Once again I had an extremely expensive therapist. If I’d not had a little bit of money put away it scares me to think where I’d be now if I’d had to rely of the likes of Mellmead House. A disgrace! I’m not the only one. My very good friend said it was horrible, and made her feel worse than before she saw them. So need I say no more. I do not recommend Mellmead House.
I’m saying this because it’s a joke was told by a triage nurse she would call me back within the next day calls me up 2 days later then on top of that she then said she would speak to doctor booked me a telephone appointment now 1hr 15mins late so far I had a text saying 11:15am telephone appointment completely useless
In the end, despite a lengthy wait, the service exceeded all expectations. The lead psychologist at the adult autism service Dr.Saminathan went totally above and beyond to support in a time of lockdown crisis; she assessed thoroughly and sensitively, followed by work on building awareness and understanding of a challenging condition. I did get the feeling that the service is way over subscribed and probably struggling to manage demand, but the service itself was outstanding and every care was taken to address problems and issues of concern and to guide in the right direction.
