Firstly, the Doctor's and Practice Nurse are consistently excellent - whoever they are. The reception team however really let the side down. I can only presume that the practice management have made the error of presuming that the 'profile' of those employed would automatically lend itself to politeness or intelligence without thinking some customer service training is required. Sadly it is. When booking an appointment try a simple 'how can I help' (presuming that's what you intend to do). Most customers are prepared for a wait these days so don't prejudice the call with a negative, try;- 'now we are all booked up this week but what I can do is get you in first thing Tuesday, how are you fixed?'. Some of us just want to make an appointment in a nice, quick friendly exchange and are not bothered when it is.....don't react like you've been asked to walk through a burning building! Next, where there has been an error or mistake - even if its not your fault, consider being gracious rather than trying to prove a point or retain an underlying argumentative attitude. This is not a school and customers are not children - many customers are or will have been professionals and have a far better grasp of situations and the concept of customer service than you may have. We are also fully aware of the challenges and constraints that you face but the job is not difficult, unless you make it that way. This really is a case of staff trying to elevate their importance and position simply through control of access to doctors that people want to see. The reality is the role is subservient in nature to customers and the staff should behave in that way with customers who are polite and friendly.
