My 72 year old husband had a fall at Grassmere and injured his ribs. He was in a lot of pain so we went to the cottage hospital for help. On our arrival at the door we rang the bell and a nurse came and told us that they were about to close. We explained what had happened. My husband was bent over in pain and obviously upset. Still we were turned away and advised to get paracetamol from a supermarket or go to hospital some distance away. I’ve been a nurse in the NHS myself for over 35 years and this just felt uncaring.
I was a patient for about 2 weeks for rehab having been in the Cumberland Infirmary with 5 broken ribs. The nursing care was superb on the whole The nurses and hcas have a lovely attitude They are kind and nothing is too much trouble I only had issue with one bank hca who was rude and abrupt . She didn't seem to be I'm the right job not she didnt spoil my experience. The food was all cooked onsite and was delicious and lots of variety The ward was super clean . Cleaners were fastidious and very friendly and kind Physio and ot staff were great andpm the ball They involved me on every aspect of my rehab. And were also a delight It sounds mad to reccomend s hospital but I would reccomend Keswick community hospital. Ypure surrounded by fells including Skiddaw and Cat Bells It was like being in a posh sanitarium in the Alps. 5* service and care
My friend fell on a walk. I accompanied her to the Minor Injuries Unit at Keswick on Saturday June 25 2022. The service was professional and efficient. The Advanced Nurse practitioner gave excellent treatment and correctly diagnosed a fracture without xray. We went back for the xray on Monday June 27 and the fracture was confirmed Advice was given by telephone from Orthopaedic team at Carlisle. All staff were courteous professional and slick. The NHS could learn plenty from this MIU and their fantastic approach. No bureaucracy. No nonsensical time wasting. Just good old fashioned care. Thank you team Keswick MIU. You are amazing.
Excellent facility. Took my son there on the advice of 111 after he developed an ear infection whilst we were here on holiday. The staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful to everyone there. Thank you!
Had to take my son in as he was having breathing difficulty and they couldn’t have been more efficient or kind. Very sensible approach to his case, and he was very quickly feeling much better. Liz the Advanced Practitioner was absolutely wonderful with him. Thank you so much!
First time in the Lake District and was referred to the Urgent Treatment Centre by 111 as I had severe pain in my left ankle. Quite anxious as well as this was the first time that I visited the area and I did not know of the place really well. Got an amazing and above and beyond treatment by one of the CNP’s - Elizabeth. Pain has been completely managed now and I can explore the scenic area flawlessly! Thank you so much for such an amazing, excellent, and compassionate care! May you always continue to share your ray of happiness and prowess to everyone! 5/5 stars indeed to the quality service that the centre provided for me.
I treated myself to a cheeky little broken ankle on the morning of my birthday. The Nurse Liz couldn’t have been gentler, kinder and more competent. The ankle was x-rayed and I was sent packing complete with a funky little orthopaedic boot and rather stylish crutches. This hospital is SUCH an invaluable resource which just proves yet again what an outrageous travesty the decision to close other cottage hospitals is. The pencil pushers who make these decisions truly have no idea. 5 hour journey to home, so I am acutely aware of the service and generosity given to someone out of area, and will manage to repay this some way in the future. The crutches will be back….
Visited in December between Xmas & NY following a fall. I had my wrist checked and was told it appeared to be a sprain, and I was given a splint and told to take pain killers. Following further treatment back in West Yorkshire, it transpires that my wrist has actually been broken for the last 11 weeks. At the time, I was quite impressed with the clinic as I was in and out in 20mins but in hindsight, maybe they should be more thorough. I was the only person waiting in the urgent treatment center at the time so this can't be down to being pushed for time.
Needed diagnosis and treatment for a broken wrist. My wait was minimal & treatment first class by professional staff. This is what the NHS is all about.
Following my hand injury whilst on holiday on 7/921and 8/9/21 I received excellent care and attention from all staff involved at the Cottage hospital. I was very grateful and proves this is a vital service for all.
