Location: on the seafront. 10 minute walk to metro station. Good access to local amenities. Service: almost nonexistent. Had we needed to find a member of staff, I'm not convinced we would heave been able to. A self-service breakfast was provided - crunchy nut or regular cornflakes, toast with marmalade or jam. Tea. Not enough plates to go around. No one to clear away others' used breakfast things. Room: mould on all walls. Full of flies which were reproducing...somewhere more appeared every morning. Drawers in bedside tables not cleaned from previous occupants - loose peanuts and fishing lures left to fester. If I had to sum up the Marlborough Hotel in four words, it would be, 'an atmosphere of sadness'.
In absolutely no situation could I ever be convinced to write an even slightly positive review about this disgrace of a 'hotel'. Not only is this repulsive, run-down building leaking with stomach wrenching levels of exposed bacteria, the owner is completely insane and requires immediate medical attention. There is a Premier Inn not too far away...
Id like to take the time out of my day to warn off any potential guests at this whithering excuse of an accommodation. Not only is the owner useless at running a hotel but she has made me and many others as an enemy in the process. I'll hold my hands up and say I lost my key and that was fairly stupid, but in a time of panick where I feared I might have to sleep on the cold streets of the north east she refused to help me and put the phone down. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with this if the place did not have the word 'hotel' in its title but since it is in fact a 'hotel' she should have 24 hour reception service as you would at a premier inn/trave lodge in case of emergencies such as the one I had. As well as all of this, the next day as I was checking out she accused me and my girlfriend of having a drinking problem and then had the cheek to ask us to leave a nice review. Well here you go Pru, hope this review is nice enough for you. Stay at the Melrose
the worst hotel if you can call it that ever, the owner treated us like we were there for free, she barged into the room without announcing room service first and she kept saying that we got a lower rate because of a mistake on the website, she also said that we are not allowed more that 2 bags???? the wifi didn't reach our room and the toilet was so small and smells of cigarettes, the fan in the toilet was so loud I couldn't sleep from it the only good thing there is the sea view
Waiting a while to get greeted, we did get upgraded. Room was a little messy but really good for money. If you wasn't picky.
No carpet in room,bathroom hadn't been cleaned,unorganised landlady ,bit of a smell ! My honest opinion of this hotel is very poor
Only got 1 star as I couldn't give 0. Been here 3 days with no clean towels or room cleaning!! Avoid at all cost
I always stay here when i come back to the area. Great views, good size rooms, friendly staff.
