Any requests made here will never be taken seriously. The rooms you rent are not what you pay for. Myself and the majority of people can agree, the experience of living here has left us with the worst mental health imaginable. No Windows in the kitchen, no air con extremely hot, had to move out in summer due to the heat . Bare minimum doesn’t exist here. A bin was provided a few months before we moved out. The staff are no help, you get treated like children, completely taken advantage of. They will walk into your flat without notice one roommate got walked in on naked We’ve experienced such a condescending attitude from the manager, you basically feel bad asking for help. Mold in the bathrooms. Deposit was a scam. Most definitely the worst place we have lived.
Moving in last year from 2021, this is my second year there. Firstly the staff/reception are so warm and friendly. They are very good with diversity and celebrations so we feel included. However the negative side is for maintenance to check in when needed. Sometimes they take longer and it’s very frustrating.also will be better if the kitchen had windows.
Spent 6 months there and overall loved it. Very convenient location, walking distance to everywhere e.g. universities, supermarkets, city centre.... And this is 2 month late but I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the two staffs at the reception for weekends my phone was lost so I couldnt recall their names. They are two men who have good sense of humor and at their age of 30-40s approximately, they are very warm-hearted and kind to offer help. If it was without their help, it's impossible for me to find my baggage back! THANK YOU!
My room was in good condition when I moved in and the staff are really lovely. There’s always a lot of activities going on to get involved in which Is a great way to socialise with others. I moved to MSV as a last resort but I absolutely love it and I have already rebooked for next year. The maintenance team are also really good and always fix any issues in my flat. I would definitely recommend living here as I always feel safe, supported and listened to.
I’ve been asking them for the past two months to get rid of the mild that’s still developing in our shower room. They keep telling me they’ll log it and the maintenance tell me they’ll put the ‘mould proof’ paint over it but nothing at all has been done. Some poor lad very recently has died of mould so you would think they’d be going the extra mile to get rid of it. Considering how much you pay, they could at least have the decency to get rid of the growing mould. On the other hand, the free gym is good and they sometimes give out free food and drink which is a bonus. They just need to listen to the people that are paying them and keeping them in a job, instead of being rude and doing zilch about a potential, life-threatening situation.
Really loved my refurbished room. The building is clean and modern with lovely reception staff who are of similar age. Plenty of interactive things going on and plenty of people to speak to inclusive of staff!!
MSV proves the adage that you "get what you pay for". I've been a student in M'cr for nearly 4 years now, and I've stayed in many different kinds of accommodation--both run by my uni, or through parties like Dwell. As a working-class student, now on his 4th year in uni with a job for income, I know that rent--especially in this current economy--is a major problem for people like me. This is why I chose MSV in the first place: Its comparatively cheaper/affordable than most halls in M'cr places that I used to stay in before have gone from £152 p.c.w rent to £160 and then £175 p.c.w in a mere year. However, in hindsight, I'm starting to wonder if I should've paid more for better accommodation. Here's why: Since Sept 13th 2022 I've stayed in one of its 4-person, shared bathroom flats--priced at £123 p.c.w. Since moving in on 13th Sept, we've only had hot water for a few days--possibly over a week at best. As of the 29/09, we've had NO HOT WATER for OVER A WEEK. No hot water in the kitchen, toilet and shower sinks, and no hot water in the shower. In order to enjoy a hot shower, I've had to regularly go and use the shower in the communal gym; and cleaning dishes etc with cold water isn't too sanitary. This isn't ideal, particularly with the onset of winter--which can get quite cold in Manchester--where keeping warm and clean is, well, important. I've been to the reception downstairs THREE times; my flatmates have also gone down to raise the issue. We've put in maintenance requests on the app too, and still NOTHING. We keep getting told the same thing: It'll get sorted out, the team is busy...etc etc. I'd assume that having a whole flat without hot water would take priority, but their rather lax response to our issues proves otherwise. Now, if I'm having these issues in the space of less than a month, then its plausible to assume that other, similar issues will crop up if you choose to live here for a year. If I was a student looking at MSV, please consider saving up and trying to get some place else as your first choice of halls. EDIT: Coincidentally, the day after posting this review, maintenance came to fix the issue--take this nugget of information as you will.
People are lovely and friendly. I enjoy the access to gym and pool table. However, the walls are too thin and unfortunately my roommates are not the ones.
I lived here during my first year from September 2019 to around March 2020, when I left during the pandemic and only returned to empty my room and clean the flat before returning my fob. I chose this accommodation because I felt like all the other ones were overpriced and a rip-off. But from experience, I would really recommend paying a bit extra because this building severely impacted my mental health and ability to meet new people. My room got hardly any light and was a foot away from having a brick wall view. I thought I could make the most of a cheaper accommodation but I could never overcome the overall feel of the building. My friends pitied me for living there because it resembled a prison and had hundreds of rooms yet I hardly met any nice, new people. It was damp and gloomy and was clearly seen as a last resort for many people. My room resembled nothing like the pictures on their website with only one horrible harsh light. After living here, I can't comprehend how student accommodations are allowed to have bathrooms and kitchens with no windows and how anyone could leave their teenagers here. I did not feel like I was a student living there, simply someone accommodating a room in a sad, dusty building. MSV should really apply some thought to how this environment could improve and seriously consider the reviews written here. When I first read them I thought they were written by dramatic, spoilt uni students who loved to complain but please don't make my mistake, avoid this horrible place. I have since met people who lived there too and we've bonded over how miserable our experiences were and how no one can truly understand what it was like.
Started a tenancy at MSV in Sep 2021. The downsides: - The kitchen has no windows and very poor ventilation - Has stains on the countertops from previous tenants - Has no common area to relax or socialise, meaning you are limited to just you’re room. - The shower Is small and once more without decent ventilation - The shower room edges have unremovable rust and mould. - The room walls are so thin that even a normal conversation can be heard clearly, making it hard to sleep. - The window only opens a couple cm making it hard to keep cool on hot days. - There is a draft and gap in the window. - The lift always keeps breaking, which just shows everything needs replacing The upside are that the staff are lovely but that’s about it. Overall the building is outdated and poor in every aspect. I’m looking forward to finishing my stay.
