What an amazing cathedral. Not the most impressive building that I've been in, but maybe, the most used and functional. There was a class for students learning English, a playgroup as well as many others enjoying the atmosphere. There's a real feel of community, or that's what I came away with. Possibly one of the most used Christian spaces that's so unassuming I have ever been in as a visitor.
Truly awe-inspiring, a glorious Cathedral at the heart of an Amazing city. The city of the Worker Bee I discovered as I asked my friend why there are bee symbols everywhere and he kindly taught me. The Cathedral is vast and I just wish I had longer to explore, I think I could spend the days there and still miss something. Manchester you are Blessed to have such a place to prey or take some quite reflection. I hope to see you again, soon!
Impressive and imposing. Interesting to see and feel the difference between this cathedral and the one in Ely for example. The location of the organ surprised me and is already worth the visit. It is visually stunning. The modern chairs disappointed me, the colour of them at least, but that's very much a personal taste. Get used to the, what feel like, unusual layout and your time. You will see more and more beautiful details.
My visit to Manchester Cathedral was nothing short of awe-inspiring. This historic gem, nestled in the heart of Manchester, offers an incredible blend of history, architecture, and art that left me mesmerized. The first thing that struck me was the stunning Gothic architecture. The intricate stone carvings on the exterior set the tone for what lies within. As soon as you step inside, you are greeted by a breathtaking interior that beautifully combines medieval craftsmanship with the warmth of the modern restorations. The high vaulted ceilings, supported by ornate columns, draw your eyes upwards, creating a sense of grandeur and reverence. One of the standout features of the Cathedral is its stained glass windows. The vibrant colors and detailed designs tell stories of faith and history, casting a beautiful, kaleidoscopic light across the stone floors. Each window is a work of art, reflecting both the past and the present. The wooden carvings, particularly the misericords, are exquisite examples of medieval art. The craftsmanship is so detailed that each piece tells its own unique story. The choir stalls, with their intricate designs, are a testament to the incredible skill of the artisans who created them. Another highlight of my visit was the peaceful atmosphere. Despite being in the center of a bustling city, the Cathedral offers a serene space for reflection and contemplation. The quietness of the interior, punctuated only by the soft echo of footsteps or the distant murmur of a visitor’s voice, creates a perfect environment for spiritual reflection or simply a moment of peace. The staff and volunteers at the Cathedral were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. Their passion for the history and preservation of this magnificent building was evident in every conversation. They were more than happy to share insights into the Cathedral’s history and significance, which added depth to the experience. Overall, Manchester Cathedral is a must-visit for anyone in the area, whether you are a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or someone looking for a tranquil escape in the city. It’s not just a building; it’s a journey through time, filled with beauty, art, and a deep sense of reverence. I highly recommend taking the time to explore this remarkable site.
Manchester Cathedral, stands as a historic and architectural gem in the heart of Manchester, England. Its rich history and stunning design make it a must-visit for anyone interested in Gothic and Romanesque architecture. The organ music resonates through the vast space during services and concerts.Whether you’re a worshipper seeking solace or a curious visitor exploring history, the cathedral welcomes all. The echoes of prayers, the flicker of candles, and the quietude invite contemplation.
My friends and I live a 5-minute walk from the church. The sound of the church bells is lovely, and the exterior of the building is extremely beautiful! However, the bells ring constantly, and while I don't mind them ringing for 5-10 minutes, they often ring for too long. I'm sorry, but I think you should consider your neighbors' need for rest. In short, the ringing is disturbing both your neighbors and me.
Manchester Cathedral is ALWAYS a pleasure to see, although admittedly, I haven't been for many years. It still exudes charm and beauty and a sense of wellbeing and calm. We went to see and hear Anna Lapwood play the organ, unfortunately though the event was badly organised, the performance didn't start until 30 minutes later than scheduled time with people still coming through the doors and being shown their seats. As lovely as Anna was, her choice of "music" left a lot to be desired. I like the movie music of Hans Zimmer as much as the next person. However, Interstellar was a poor choice of movie music, and perhaps I misread the programme, but I had assumed, which you should never do, was that other more classical pieces would be played in addition those on the programme. The rendition of Debussy's Clair de Lune, one of my personal all-time favourite pieces of music, although done with passion by Anna, lacked the subtlety of the piano when played on the Organ sadly. When I think of all the pieces of music that could've been played on the organ in such a majestic setting as Manchester Cathedral, we felt rather cheated out of our hard earned money, in fact several people must have had the same feelings and left the performance early. Fantastic venue, lovely girl, poorly organised, poor choice of music sadly.
I visited Manchester Cathedral as part of its Heritage day, my mother Ann Davies worked there as a secretary in the 70s after previous jobs on the Manchester to Chester law courts circuit, I enjoyed a really friendly talk with one of the guides about the miserichords in the choir stalls and their fascinating history, the fun facts brightened up my day, I chatted to a few other guides and representatives of this quaint cathedral so left on a positive note! Strangely even though my last visit was at six years old I have a spiritual imprint of the place which I never realised I had, when I looked at the exterior everything was brought back to mind, I took a few snaps and vidz to show my mother who has speech difficulties due to vascular dementia sadly. She looked intently at each photo and said yes without a fuss, she seldom speaks which meant she remembered! I was pleased I'd made the effort to show her, even though she was quizzical, I think it moved her as she thoroughly enjoyed working there! She particularly seemed to like the garden snaps, it's a beautiful garden btw and great to visit in summer. The surrounding buildings are attractive and a real piece of history amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, a relatively more recent addition is the inspiring statue of Mahatma Gandhi close by which I also snapped
Very peaceful and beautiful place, the memorial for the 2017 Manchester attack was emotional and well-looked after. The inside is well maintained and holds a lot of historyVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Manchester Cathedral may not be the largest cathedral but it is very beautiful and definitely worth popping into. A Gothic church built between 1421 - 1882, Manchester Cathedral seats about 940.  It was severely damaged during WW2 and again in 1996 IRA bombing.  It is unusual in that it boasts a mix of medieval woodwork in the north of the cathedral and in the choir to very beautiful but quite modern stained glass windows.
