I had my 50th birthday in this pub. The owners allowed my husband to decorate the room and also added beautiful birthday decorations themselves. When I entered the rooms, I did not expect such a spectacular effect. Something wonderful And the food is perfect and delicious, beautifully decorated. Everything fresh and perfectly served. Service at the highest level. Evaluating this place it gives only 5 stars but it's not enough because they deserve I recommended this place
It's set in a pretty village and looks slightly unassuming from the outside. We booked via the website which didn't provide a confirmation email. We also got a little confused by the menus - do you only get the Sunday menu on Sunday? Overall, there's a friendly atmosphere. The waiting staff were amazing and made the effort to make us feel welcome and valued. The food was delicious, really tasty, uncomplicated and good quality. There was kids menu and vegetarian options. If you are vegan I'd check before going on a Sunday.
I recently visited The Malt Shovel in Brearton North Yorkshire which is only 10 mins drive from Knaresborough or Harrogate, Me and my partner were sat next to a roaring log burner which gave a nice cosy feel to the Malt Shovel, We had a starter , main and desert which was all served quickly and cooked to perfection.
We decided to go to the Malt Shovel rather than another pub/restaurant in the vicinity.. It had been several years since we had visited and there is a good atmosphere. It was not too busy when we went one evening last week. One reason we had chosen the Malt Shovel was because they had calves liver on the menu. After we had ordered I was informed that they had just sold the last portion! It was only 7pm or so! I was really upset at this but in the event we decided to stay and I had Sea Bass instead. It was delicious but not what I had looked forward to having. I
Having spent the day in the dales my partner and I fancied a late Sunday lunch. We saw a sign post for the Malt Shovel and did a quick check on reviews to see it at 4.7. We headed there and saw it was busy but luckily for us they could squeeze us in. Having sat down we both decided on the carvery only to find out they had run out of beef. It was late so they can’t be blamed for that so we went for lamb and veggie instead. We got comfy with a nice glass of wine and a pint. Neatly an hour passed and the glasses were empty, unfortuanately so were our stomachs. After a quick chaser the food came out. What a big disappointment!! The food looked and tasted like it had been on a hot plate for hours however was tepid. In the end we sent the food back paid for the drinks and left hungry. Not sure what the issue is at the malt shovel as we left 5 mins after another family walked out in disgust. Certainly not a 4.7 and one to miss in my opinion
We really enjoyed our visit here on a Tuesday evening. It's a lovely pub, spacious, clean and cozy atmosphere. It's pretty classic pub food slightly elevated and excellent quality. Had the crab salad, scampi and pie - all tasty and generous sized. Didn't have room for dessert. Great service too.
Wonderful meal for Mum’s birthday, lovely calm service and great food. Cosy atmosphere with two log burning stoves. Well recommended!
Fabulous lunch in this beautiful cosy pub. We were looked after by Laura who made this a truly lovely experience . Great food and wine
Having organised my husband's 40th birthday at The Malt Shovel in Brearton with our family, 16 in total, everyone had a wonderful evening thanks to the restaurant's great service, delicious food and beautiful surroundings. From the beginning, the Manager was so helpful and accommodating, even went above and beyond by decorating our table and room in preparation for our arrival. Also, having 2 young children, they offered colouring books with crayons and lollipops which kept them happy! Thank you so very much for your 5* service, delicious food and attention to detail. The evening was perfect Strongly recommend to all that appreciate great food and lovely surroundings, whether they are wanting a small private table or looking to accommodate a large party, due to the traditional building it allows tables to have privacy to enjoy their evening ... we will certainly be back.
So glad it is in safe hands and up and running. We had a wonderful meal out with friends. The evening went well staff were amazing.
