I’m quite happy that I switched my neurologist to Dr. Vosoughi and now I believe I receive the right care and medical attention that I need. I had some disappointments when I was referred here first cancelled appointments without notifying me, long wait time for occupational therapist and physiotherapist but now after 2 years things are routine.
Anytime I have appointments at this clinic my doctor Dr Valways rushes me in and out. He doesn’t ask any questions about how I am feeling or how I am doing. He doesn’t offer ANY suggestions on how to deal with my symptoms he just states “Well you have MS it’s too be expected” Yes Doctor I know that but as the professional I would at least hope he would help me some way to ease my burdens. I’m definitely looking for a new neuro I guess he doesn’t like me as there are mixed reviews about Dr V lol what a waste of time I live all the way in Scarborough. The amount of time it takes me to get to St Mikes is longer than any appointment I’ve actually had at the MS clinic.
Why not provide a new patient information sheet titled something like What To Expect On Your First Appointment? I did not expect physical and cognitive testing at my first appointment but there it was. The information sheet would help build trust with the Dr.
I have to give this clinic 5 stars, but it's a qualified 5 stars. I'll break it down: 1The architecture and environment are beautiful, and a lot of money was obviously spent on this gorgeous new facility, but no one cares. The clean building with a wonderful waiting room & nice views is not why we're here. 2The phone reception & wait times are unbearably awful if you have to call in, with service hours that are just not good enough. Individual live receptionists, as many complain, are a mixed bag: some are smart & compassionate, others are short-tempered, unqualified, and probably overworked which makes them worse. Probably these are short-term admin jobs, and people get shuffled around. Again, as much as this irritates us, and I see people leaving 1-star reviews for it, we shouldn't care much about it. Prompt, friendly, & competent phone service would be nice, but they're not why we're here either. 3 My 5-stars is really only related to the things that ought to matter most to us, as people with an awful, incurable, degenerative disease: the medical care I've received at this clinic has been wonderful. It has given me my life back. It has seen me transition from a bedridden, miserable husk into a fully functional human being again. I still live with MS. I still experience motor difficulties, cognitive difficulties, vision difficulties, emotional difficulties. If you're referred to this clinic, you probably do too. But I trust the treatment & care I've received. Even though a lot of it comes down to simple prescriptions, infrequent visits, and way-too-long referral times, life with well-managed MS is so much better and fuller and happier than the years I suffered with it undiagnosed and untreated. Dr. Vosoughi is my treating neurologist, and he absolutely gets top marks from me. He's very personable, and I think his personality gels with mine, which is good. It may not gel with everybody the same way, but his treatment strategies will help you even if you don't care for his company as much as I do. He doesn't waste time throwing low-efficacy drugs at you until further deterioration and years of new irreversible brain damage proves they don't work. He follows the approach we're lucky to be able to afford in Canada: start with the good stuff, the best anti-demyelinization meds available, and don't wait for more damage to prove the cheap drugs aren't working. The nurse practitioners who manage the relapse area are also very good. Finally, a few kind words are necessary for Dr. Lu Gao, the neuropsychiatrist who has finally put me back in the workplace and helped me handle the cognitive effects of this disease and the side effects of the drugs being used to fight it. Psychiatrists are not, in my experience, very personable, but Dr. Gao has been compassionate, attentive, and willing to make me a partner in my own care. Dr. Vosoughi seems to handle the physical side of MS very well: other patients will have more advanced motor nerve issues than me, and this is where he shines. A lot of what he does focuses on keeping us walking, managing vision & daily pain. But the brain fog & cognitive side of MS needs more than a doctor who keeps your body working the way it should. Don't be shy to ask for a referral for mental health. He's ready and willing to give it--but with wait times of 12-15 months maybe the hardest year of your life, you want to ask sooner, not later. Mental health with MS doesn't just mean "treating crazy," as the stigma of mental health goes, and psychiatrists these days aren't here to lie you on a couch & talk about your parents. It means treating & reducing the daily frustrations of making your brain work five times harder than other people's brains to find words when speaking, focus, or remember things. I feel 20 years younger & less fatigued since starting brain treatment, which is a side that many people trying to walk better often seem to neglect. This is silly when what we have is a BRAIN disease. Be your own advocate, and you'll be surprised how far it'll get you here.
We came from Cobourg again to see my neurologist Dr Vosoughi. He is absolutely the best !! Cannot say enough about his knowledge..great bedside and kindness. The MS floor is gorgeous all the staff so kind and wonderful. I would recommend 100 percent if you are dealing with MS .
What a beautiful new clinic. Bright and welcoming with all the amenities needed for its MS patients. Just an easy elevator ride up to the Clinic. I received treatment when the Clinic was in the Shuter wing years ago and believe me this is amazing in comparison. Thank you.
From: Ronald Morrison Patient of Dr. Vosoughi. Dr. Vosoughi is very unprofessional. I have met him once in person and he dismissed all my symptoms to not be MS. All symptoms I have are MS symptoms. He did an MRI on my lower back to look for a herniated disk. Wouldn’t look for new MS lesions. He was swearing during the hole appointment and even said if I could cure one of your legs what one would you want cured? What cure do you refer to? The Botox injections that he gave were what he was calling a cure. These injections are no cure and should never be referred to as one. I also got zero relief from the Botox injection. I was in and out of his office in about 15 minutes and all my claims dismissed as not MS but no other investigative measure taken other then looking for herniated disk that wasn’t there. I just called into the clinic to request a referral to a doctor not in their office. I was first in the queue from 3:30pm until 4:00pm. The office closes at 4:00pm I was left in queue first in line to speak to someone to be told at 4pm they were closed. This clinic is horrible to deal with. There is no way to get ahold of your doctor. You have to call and explain why you need to speak to a nurse and then you don’t even get to speak to that nurse you have to leave a message and explain what’s wrong again and they claim they will call back within 24-48 hours but the first time I called it took them a week to call me back and even then I didn’t get any help. I was told to go to the hospital. Hospitals also don’t help. Hospitals say they’re not MS specialist and dismiss you as well. This hole system is broken and disgusting. I will not be interacting with the MS Clinic or Dr. Vosoughi again. I hope you get shut down because you provide horrible health care.
If you like waiting 10+ minutes waiting for someone to answer the phone without anyone in the queue this the place for you. Seems everyone takes off early for the weekend but it’s too bad this illness doesn’t. I need serious help and it is impossible to get it. Would rate 0 if I could. EDIT: Amending this review only to say that Dr. Mucilli cares deeply about her patients but is extremely overburdened. She gets 5 stars from me but the clinic gets 0
The lady that answers is not the nicest, she’s rude I don’t know why she still works there it’s the second time this happens with her. I called, she was somewhat mean and like condescending? She had pretty loud music on that could be heard on the other side of the line and she couldn’t hear me like ?! So frustrating! I hope she changes or they get someone else. MS people require a lot of patience, if she treats me that way being the daughter to someone with MS how does she treat them?
Firstly, this clinic is obviously very, very busy. My first experience was difficult because of a mix up with the doctor not coming in that day and, of course, I was mid-flare up and waiting for an official diagnosis so every step of the process felt like a mountain to climb. That being said, aside from that experience the nurses have been helpful and have respond to my voicemail messages within a day or two. My only other frustration is that often the line will seem to close down before the daily closing time listed on the website. The reason I chose to rate 5 stars is because of my doctor, he is straightforward, clear, and seems to take my treatment very seriously. I feel as if he is on my team and invested in the plans for my health. He is not willing to settle for me being "fine" but seems to strive to provide the best results to curb my MS and improve my quality of life. I feel like I am in good hands with him.
