Good open space. Dog friendly. So good place if other places have no room or you have a dog. Unfortunately, overall not great an experience. Staff saw us waiting to be seated and just walked around us. I needed to ask if we just should grab a table. Not terrible but could improve. Had the tempura oysters and calamari. Oysters were decent. Good presentation. The calamari looked and felt like onion rings. Not great but some people may prefer it this way. Than the chowder. A piece of fish tasted like it was off. The other fish pieces were fine. The baby potatoes were extremely undercooked. The waitress said she’d feed it back when we flagged it - you’d expect more when a product is sub-standard. Burger patty lacked seasoning but the relish compensated. Water available for the dogs along with little bone treats that my dog usually sticks her nose up at but loved here. Not terrible but enough bad points on this occasion to warrant quite a negative review I’m afraid.
Great place. Haven't been for some years, but decided to pop in as Nelsons Shantymen were singing. The front half of the Pub is very traditional and very old. We like it. A huge and modern extension has been put on the back. Impressive and totally understandable from the business point of view however we were initially a little taken aback. If you do visit, please ensure that you see the old part alongside the new Good Menu. Good service Good Food although priced more than we would normally pay Will certainly return
This is a very very nice local pub and diner. The food selection while smaller than some places is very well thought out, there's a great variety and the quality is great. While on the pricier side for a pub the food is definitely worth every penny. I would recommend going with friends and or family.
It is with a heavy heart that I have to write a bad review, but The lord Nelson at Burnham Thorpe deserves it more than anywhere I have ever eaten in my life. The starter of the beef short rib, was pretty good, but as far as my food went, that was where it ended. I ordered the steak, and for £28 I expected it to be something to look forward to. I asked for rare, the chef, who is clearly inexperienced at cooking meat, must have used an almost cold pan. The fat hadn't seen any heat so it was raw, and the meat itself was pale grey. I asked for another one, and when attempt number two came back, the chef had put the same piece of steak back in a Luke warm pan, and cooked until it was completely over done but still hadn't shown any heat to the fat. The third attempt, was worse then the first, and clearly cooked in a pan with no heat once more. My partners pie was burnt, and the mash was lumpy, but at least her food was passably edible. For the price the food costs here, you would expect decent food. The only saving grace of our evening, was the front of house staff, who were very apologetic, gave me a free espresso Martini which was incredibly good and gave us free desserts. My advice to anyone reading this is to avoid it at all costs. There are many amazing places to eat in the area, the Chequers at Thornham does truly amazing steak, and is far more deserving of your money than The lord Nelson.
Stopped by the pub on a walk from Burnham Market. Had a well kept pint of real ale in the old part of the pub. Interesting museum on site with an audible history of Nelson and a giant map of old Norfolk on the floor.
Great Sunday lunch after a walk. Dog friendly. Best carrots ever!
Nice service. Staff made us very welcome. Lovely big beer garden in a nice location, but quite pricey and reckon they could do with some more staff. Took quite a while to get served. We would happily have had desert but it took a long while to order/get served, so am afraid we ran out of time. On plus side they do a dog roast not on the menu we saw, went down a treat!
Really lovely meal. Living not a million miles from the pub decided to go out for a meal as youngest son was staying. The food and service were excellent. I had fish and chips, hubbie had steak and son had the burger. All three dishes were beautifully cooked and presented and the service was great.wishing you great success this coming year.
High standard pub at a very reasonable price and Brewery beer range. Polite staff.
Amazing Sunday lunch. Started with Dark & Stormy cocktails, made how they should. Mouth watering Tempura Oysters and Beef Roast. Finished off nicely with moorish Sticky Toffee Pudding. Candles and fire aglow and a dusting of superb service and ambiance. Simply perfect and we are fussy.
