Came here on a whim late one evening and was delighted at the delicious and well priced food. We were there on a quiet night and got sat right away. The waitress was very helpful in recommending vegetarian dishes and we were not disappointed at all. Honestly it must be one of the best value places to grab a quality meal in the area.
I love injera which is a soft fluffy sour tasting Ethiopian pancake eaten with meat and/or vegetables. This time I went to Addis which is on Caledonian Road where there are many Ethiopian restaurants but Addis is nearer Kings Cross Station hence the reason I dined there. I was tempted to leave and go to another Ethiopian restaurant because service was so slow. I had the Dulet which was finely chopped lamb tripe, liver and red lamb meat cooked with Ethiopian spices. The injera was served first and it was so soft and fluffy like an English pancake but very sour tasting like there was so much fresh lemon juice in it. Next came the dulet which I thought was saucy but it was dry. Overall, I found the dulet too chewy because it was mainly 80% tripe and couldn't find any liver so the other 20% is probably lamb meat. The injera at this place is definitely the best I've had but probably chose the wrong dish to go with it. On a side note, the sharing plates are huge!!
I've been to a few Ethiopian restaurants, especially in Spain —great experiences. At Addis food was just OK and wasn’t served hot which eroded our trust — one of us had overcome cancer recently so they were not too reliant on their dish. And the menu is not written too clearly for the uninitiated. The table was waited correctly but one of the waiters' attitude was not too welcoming really. Not the worst joint I've been at but I'm not anxiously expecting to return.
Omg. This place was amazing. I'd had Ethiopian once before and it was poor so was a bit worried to try this place. Needn't have been. The waitress was nice and brought the menu straight away once we were seated. We ordered all the food and drink and it was pretty quick. I don't usually drink red but it was so nice we polished off 5 bottles and we're never made to feel like we were in the way. Fantastic meal and service. Defo recommend for a day of day drinking.
As you can see we were a big group and although the service was 3 okay, they did accommodate all of us, so hence the 4. Our side of table decided to share a mixed meat with injera which is aimed for 2 people. It was delicious, with lost of flavours and plenty for 2! When we came they had their card machine working compared to seeing previous comments, which made paying for the bill as a group easier.
Interesting food experience. Spicy lamb meat Ye beg wot was my best dish. Beef we ordered as medium cooked was bit sloppy. Everything was bit sour but still fresh and nice. It seems that many people with Ethiopian origins often visit the place which proves it has quite authentic taste.
One knife between the two of us and one napkin. Managed to get attention of the head waiter, got another knife. Promised another napkin but didn't arrive! My lamb dish was extremely hot, managed to eat only a few spoonfuls. The waiter asked if everything was okay but did not wait for the answer! Eventually he did ask if I would like anything else instead and brought me some ice cream as requested. They charged us for everything, including the ice cream!!!
I haven't had Ethiopian or Eritrea food for ages, and I found this restaurant close by. The restaurant is 5min from kings cross station and it's just opposite Tesco and next to a Thai restaurant. When I came I realised I had only 45min left before they close, howvwer the guy was really accommodating and said no worries while ushered me to a table. I opted for a vegetarian option as it was a bit to late in the evening for some meat. From I offer until I got my food, probably 10-15 min. The assortments was put on top this big pancakes - not the pancakes but the white, fluffy bread like dish. It was good and just how I remember it, except this time it was tiny spiceyier than what I wanted but not spice enough to say it was burning. So good ; and it filled me up so didn't eat the whole thing, and it was a big dish.. Love it and for the dish and coke and it was not to expensive happy days. I love that the restaurant had a lot of decorations that pay? Mk homage pay to their culture. Vegetarian options: Yes plenty of options. Dietary restrictions: Call the restaurant and speak to them. Parking: Street parking Kid-friendliness: Yes... Wheelchair accessibility: Yes one leave
I've been before about 5 years ago and remembered it being good so took my family during a trip to London. Service with a smile for the most part, and seated quickly. Food took a while to come but they were busy for a Wednesday night. Ordered a dish that said "mildly spicy" and asked if they could make it very, very mild and they agreed, when it came it was maybe the spiciest thing we ordered. My partner and our 13 year old could hardly eat it. We did ask for some plain rice for my son to eat instead and they didn't charge for this as an apology for not being able to make it milder. Waiter did seem to avoid us when it came to paying and was a bit abrupt. Overall I personally liked the food I do think the hot spices could be toned down a little, even on my food but my son's and partner would never want to go again. Not recommended if you have fussy eaters with you as even the mild food is very hot and spicy.
The restraunt was extremely cold & the service was really slow considering wasn't exactly busy. The food was tasty but feel portion could been a little bigger.Food: 4/5
