I chose the Red Lion motel near York for its location fair price and good reviews. I arrived Friday night at 4pm and my room had not been cleaned and clearly many of the cleanliness problems were not just due to missing one clean. Jess on reception was most helpful and offered to clean the room. She then offered me their superior room which apart from having a huge cobweb on the ceiling and a missing lamp shade was fine. Overnight the road noise lessened but was noticeable again by 7am. The bed was huge but so uncomfortable. The food in the bar was fine but pricey - £7.95 for dessert. Overall I was disappointed and the red lion on the night of my stay was not the same as the one on the reviews. I believe there are new owners and there seemed to be a shortage of staff. I would not stay again. However Jess on reception was excellent
Went for the Valentine’s Day meal and stayed overnight. The room was lovely. We had a large bed that was very comfortable and the bathroom was reasonably sized with good shower pressure. The Valentine’s Day meal itself was delicious! Really good food for a really good price. Including entertainment of a singer who was amazing! The table service was also great with staff checking that our meal was going well. Overall a wonderful experience.
A nice little place in york. Very very reasonably priced. The staff were lovely and very helpful. They are just in the middle of renovating and some bits still needed painting, but that's not really a problem. It was clean, warm and comfortable. A couple of biscuits in the room would be nice and maybe some better coffee, but you can always bring your own lol. Safety: I'm a bit of a sleep walker, this room stays locked when you lock it, instead of those stupid locks that unlock when you push the handle down. So no escaping for me haha. Food & drinks: Nice looking restaurant and pub on site, although we didn't have time to visit this bit.
Food was incredible! Lovely staff, Jess is so friendly and helpful. The slow cooked brisket was fantastic. Will definitely be returning for food when passing York. Clean and comfy room; perfect for an overnight stay just outside the centre.
New owners so only get things together. They could not have been more helpful, friendly and nice. Really great place to eat food was fantastic. If I am ever in York again this is where I'll stay. Thanks to all at red loin for a memorable stay.Rooms: 5/5
Just returned from a very enjoyable, 2 night, stay at the Red Lion. We had planned a family get together with sightseeing in York, the Christmas market and Rail museum but the weather washed out all but the museum! Thankfully the welcome at the Red Lion went a long way to make up for the disappointment we felt. All the team beginning with the “boss,” Adrian, were very friendly and provided a warm welcome. Jess and Henning couldn’t have been more welcoming, we were made to feel more like family than customers, and the brief sightings of chef David were accompanied by a smile and a wave. The food was good, so David was definitely doing his part in making our stay enjoyable, the beer was equally appreciated and as we were staying overnight no concerns about overindulging. Breakfast provided a treat when Adrian described the egg royale as having his “home smoked” salmon! Lets just say that we enjoyed it so much we repeated the experience the following morning what about putting home smoked salmon on the main menu Adrian?. The bedrooms were large with brilliant white bedding on a very comfortable bed ensuring a good night’s sleep and all very reasonable priced. What more could you want? We will be returning, hopefully with better weather!
Had a delicious Sunday carvery, generous portions, tasty food and friendly service. Perfect for a family get together!
Came here for mothers day lunch, it was lovely! Plenty of food and a great choice. Reasonably priced as well.Service: 5/5
Went to the Red Lion for food today and it was absolutely indredible! We all had Sunday dinners - I got a chicken dinner and it was one of the best I've had. Everything cooked to perfection! Everyone's food looked incredible and the portions were really generous. The staff were lovely and welcoming and the service was brilliant. The pub has a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be returning!
We called in for Sunday lunch, OMG, best Sunday roast ever. Good selection, food was piping hot, beat's a Carvery hand's down. A very warm and welcoming bar and staff could not do enough. Very highly recommended.Service: 5/5
