Edna went to stay at Wharfedale House, intending to be there for two weeks respite care, when she was finding it difficult to cope at home. On arrival she spoke to some of the residents before seeing her lovely room and immediately wanted to stay there permanently. All the staff were wonderful with Edna in every respect and when she became very poorly they looked after her with love and compassion. The standard of care was exemplary and the way the staff arranged doctors visits and supervised the district nurses to come in towards the end of her life was extremely professional. When Edna passed away the manager and his assistant were so very kind to our family and took care of our every need. All the family are so grateful and we say a huge thank you to all the staff and residents who looked after Edna so well. Wharfedale House is a residential Home with the calibre of staff Leonard Cheshire should be truly proud of. David Cooper
Starting as the new Administrator in January 2022 i have been welcomed with open arms since day one. Never doing admin in this sort of environment before I feel i have wasted my work life when a job like this is so rewarding. The service users are all so lovely and it feels good that they can come to me with any issues to help. James, service manager and Emily, Deputy manager were newly promoted when i first started and they have been a great support to me especially in recent very difficult times for me. We all work so well as a team which helps the dynamics in workplace and all the service users seem to love the new structure and all staff and service users talk and help each other. Such a lovely place to live and work and in such beautiful surroundings too in our lovely town of Wetherby
James, the manager, and Millie, his deputy have made such a difference since they were appointed. They are approachable and committed, with the result that Wharfedale House has a positive atmosphere and is being run for the benefit of the residents. Staff show respect and commitment. Activities seem to have increased and notices are always kept up to date. I am always made to feel welcome whenever I visit my son and I know I could air any concerns, knowing they would be acted on. There are still issues with getting repairs done, but this isn't the home's fault. It's due to the unfathomable management system within the Leonard Cheshire organisation. Well done James and Millie!
Having worked here. I was massively let down when pressure as a team leader and inadequate staffing became an issue. Rhe home is quite female carer based. And often I had no females to start a shift at 07.30. I had to accept there public transport was delayed. Therefore I was under pressure to ensure I could assist residents up who required female staff. While administering medication promptly The residents were all accommodating. And very friendly. The new management had recruited a lot of staff from the agency they used but this entailed late ness and staff not fully equipped to meet the residents needs. And as an ex employee. I now realise I had very little support. The new management in place we’re more focused on themselves achieving. And disregarded my problems wirh staffing levels. Overall rhe home is lovely. The residents are fantastic. And I hope the new management in place start to really support the care staff a little better.
A care home with a difference, they really don't care, quite happy to take a small fortune for care from the local authority but won't accept responsibility for personal kit despite their client being totally unable to look after his own kit. Very disappointed
The home's staff are generally very good. Committed, hard working, caring people who do the hard work with unsociable hours and big responsibility because they care about the residents. The management are a horrific joke. The individual home managers vary between being good and being horrific. The management of the charity is a disgraceful incompetent to malicious joke, and has been for the 20 years I've been here. They know nothing of accountability, transparency, service user involvement or basic competence. This is something I don't say lightly, I'm not subject to histrionics; but I've seen far too much incompetence, abuse and hard-hearted straightforward cruelty by this duplicitous organisation - as verified by regulators and by the Multi- Agency Safeguarding Adults Board.
Leonard Cheshire is a disgraceful charity. They charge their residents on average around £1,200 per week and given a £3.50 per resident budget for food and drink. Leonard Cheshire have to be one of the worst charities I have ever come across and they need investigating. Their staff are also treated appallingly with terrible wages, £8.30 per hour to be exact for 14 hour shifts.
A residential home for LCD. It has a modern environment for residents.
