I did the 1 day fish workshop on a Saturday and had a great couple of hours. The teachers were very knowledgeable and supportive. They talked us through the basics of identifying fresh fish and then demonstrated how to prepare and fillet different varieties of fish. We then prepared and cooked our lunch of squid, followed by sea bass with a glass of wine or soft drink with our group. You had the option of taking your seabass home to have for dinner, which a few in our group did. I would highly recommend and will be back.
I’ve done 4 courses here now 2 x 1 week , 2x 1day and have really enjoyed every single day I’ve been on them. It is an excellent balance between demonstrating and practical. What you learn, for an enthusiastic but beginner/ intermediate cook, is that it is familiar but takes you into learning new skills and recipes. The teachers and staff are v friendly and are great at helping you get it. The most recent being the Malay cooking course by Norman Musa. Dishes I thought beyond me where shown to be actually well within reach. The best part of any of these courses is eating the finished product.
I did Cooking with Confidence, a six week one evening a week course at Leiths, it was a brilliant experience, learning skills and techniques that make a difference to both the dishes I create and my enjoyment of cooking. I literally do feel more confident. I did part one, but there are three parts.
Flavours of Amalfi, Italy with Ursula FERRIGNO was expensive disappointment. Ursula it's lovely but the course was a mess. The ingredients for the pasta wasn't measurt correctly. Extremely confusing when they start bringing ingredients for the pasta and for the pizza. I had to insist some of the dish to show to us how it been deep fried. We didn't have demonstration how the sauce for the pasta it's been made. Definitely expensive mess was that class
I've been on a few courses at Leiths and they are always wonderful. The teachers are knowledgeable and the course always leave me feeling fulfilled and with tons of food! The booking and admin team are always polite and we always leave with a recipe pack and in some cases a certificate of attendance. They have celebrity chefs as well teaching the classes and you get to meet them, get your book signed and take pictures. I highly recommend doing a course at Leiths.
Last year I went on two day long 'Chef skills' courses, Terrines and Pastry. Both were excellent! The courses were delivered by a Leiths teacher of 20 years experience Max and her knowledge was brilliant. Despite being an experienced cook I learned masses! I have used the recipes we did on the course several times since. It is a great way to learn skills but also is a great day out, with delicious refreshments and lunches. Highly recommend the Leiths experience!
Established over 35 years ago Leiths teaches a whole range of courses. Leiths school of Food and Wine is a leading London Cookery School with HQ in Shepherds Bush. I went on a food styling masterclass special one off. The class was held in professionally equipped kitchens and all the ingredients are weighed out and supplied. We were thought by a professional home economist. The best thing was we did the washing up. Fun environment and terrific service. recommended!
'Introduction to Sourdough' was an expensive disappointment. The course was terminated an hour earlier than scheduled even though one of the twelve participants expressed a wish for the tutor to continue with the pizza demo. Twelve is too many for this course. The tutor worked hard in skirting around the most fundamental of questions: how she made her sourdough starter/culture. The over-worked assistant failed to hand out the dough made by the participants to take home. Leiths promised to forward it but it took five days to arrive. Sadly, am unable to recommend the experience. Barbara
I had the best time at the chocolate workshop last Friday. Lou and chaz were so helpful and skilled. We had a lovely lunch spread out for us as well. I 100% recommend!
Wonderful experience! Learned about baking methods and tricks of the trade. The class was well led and structured. The chefs Louisa and Daleen were amazing. I'm looking forward to my next class.
