Its taken a long time but Covid saw to that. Finally visited after being tempted by landlord when stopping outside in mid-2020 after first lockdown was eased. Very much worth the ride out there as this pub has a lovely garden, great beers and cider as well as a lively atmosphere. Will have to return to sample food, which I believe is traditional snacks not the usual and often bland gastropub fare.
No music. No TV. Just really good quality beer not from the big boys kept immaculately and atmosphere by the pound
This is one of my partner’s local pubs, and having now visited every other pub in the area many times, we’ve both decided that this one is our favourite. At a glance it looks like a bit of an old man pub, but it’s actually quite a quirky little spot with colourful clientele. There’s a reasonably broad, rotating selection of ales and ciders on offer as well as a good selection of gins and other spirits, and we always find something for our tastes. My partner says the sausage rolls are transcendental. The pub has a lot more character than others nearby and we’ve always found the staff friendly and welcoming. There’s also a really friendly pub dog called Purdy!
Great range of beers, which have all been properly kept. The pub is a, CAMRA, multi award winner, and a bitter drinker's paradise. Cheers!!
Bit of a time warp. This is a very traditional Pub whose excellent reputation for serving quality and varied Ales proceeds it. It's about 1/2 a mile off the M25 @J18. Adequate car parking and plenty of outdoor seating. They do not allow young children even in the beer garden and I can see why some other reviewers have an issue with the Landlord. But I didn't, he was polite in a slightly stand off way but knew his business. I saw an entirely different side when a local came in and he became quite animated. If your looking for a character pub with good Ales and choices this is for you. If you want a Children friendly pub with expansive menu then head the other way off the M25 into Rickmansworth.
On a long journey with a baby, pulled off the M25 as baby distressed and we needed some food. We came across this pub and I sat in the car to feed baby. Then my partner went to walk around the garden to occupy the baby for 5mins as I gathered the phone/wallet/changing bag ect. The landlord then approached my partner holding the baby, and aggressively ask what we were doing! He continued to be hostile during the interactions. Left after that. AVOID
Wonderful small local pub serving a good selection of real ale and cider. This and the knowledgeable staff made the visit a high scoring venue in this year's local CAMRA POTY Competion.
It is a sizeable walk from Chorleywood Underground station but certainly worth it. Huge garden. We were there on Friday. This is a wet-led pub and like every other similar institution times are tough. Support or it will be gone. Couple of hundred years old. The name comes from the Chartist movement.
You will not find a better, more attentively kept, or flavoursome pint of real ale for miles. In addition, there's a strong chance you can try a session beer with a depth and balance of flavours belying its 3%ABV strength. Broaden your beer horizons with a trip to the Land-o!
The lager was lovely but seriously overpriced at £6 per pint. The service from the landlord was completely unwelcoming. We won't be going back!
