The good was amazing! The best risotto and chocolate mousse I have ever tried before! The lamb was just perfectly cooked and the sauce was stunning. The owner was super friendly and talkative! Itade is feel welcomed. The peace of the service was slow, just like in the Mediterranean countries which is amazing to get your mind away from the London rushed life. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free and nuts free option available. Loads of options
Amazing. Food was cooked to perfection full of flavour and delicious. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was really friendly and welcoming .Food: 5/5
The 2 course and 3-course meal has moderate choice of dishes. Both food and service are value for money.Food: 4/5
LA CAGE IMAGINAIRE! RESTAURANT EXTRAORDINAIRE!! Thank you Maria and your team for a blissful dining experience at your exquisite family run restaurant. A midsummer night’s dream in Hampstead. Delicious dinner, divine ambiance and superb service. Marsha et Jean-Jacques xx
It was very refreshing to find such a nice, quiet restaurant. The menu was a little confusing with 2 different types of sets, and not everything was available either, but the waiters were all very helpful and the food was great! Also: dog friendly, we were allowed to go in with our toy poodle Vegetarian options: Onion soup is vegetarian friendly and really good, there’s also a main or two and a bunch of desserts so really quite good for a French restaurant
I really enjoyed my meal here. The location is lovely and can be used as a stop before embarking on a walk around the heath, or if you just fancy pottering around the shops of Hampstead. Being able to have a 3 course meal anywhere in London for under £25 is always going to be great value for money. All the food served felt very homely, the staff were friendly and it was just what was needed before a winter's walk. I would highly recommend the duck!
I want to start by saying that I love how reasonable the prices were. We had a 3 course meal each for under £25 per person + bread with buttern on the house. The restaurant itself is nice and cozy, definitely had the right atmosphere for what it is. The food was good, to be completely honest I wasn’t over the moon about it but I’m happy to say I’ve tried the infamous onion soup. The service was great. It’s definitely worth stopping by if you’re having a day around Hampstead
A first in quite some time - absolutely terrible food. The frog legs were okay, the salmon starter - weird combo of cooked and smoked fish, thick chunks of onion, not even mixed well. Of mains, mushroom tagliatelle were overcooked with distinct fatty butter flavour, duck breast overcooked and chewy, potato gratin dry and flavorless as if it's been cooked a day before. The place looks cute, the menu is very French but the food does not match any of the atmosphere. Decent wine and polite service were the only saving grace. Will not return, and don't recommend.
AVOID THIS PLACE at all costs! Our experience here was one of the worst we’ve had dining out. We waited over 30 minutes for our food, while other tables that arrived later were served first. When we asked the waitress where our food was, the manager rudely blamed us for not ordering starters—something we hadn’t ordered. Instead of apologizing, she was condescending and dismissive, as if the delay was our fault. The restaurant is tiny, yet the manager seems unable to handle even basic service. All tables around us waited ages for their food as well, so it’s clear this isn’t an isolated issue. The place was freezing, and they didn’t even bother to make it more comfortable or inform us about any delay. They had a waitress in training who seemed left on her own without proper guidance. Terrible service, long waits, cold atmosphere, and a manager who deflects blame—save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere!
This used to be my favourite place in hampstead. But recently the food has dropped the quality. The menu is changed and more tables have made the place all cramped. Sad. Post review : 5 years later went back again after pandemic. The extra decor is gone, cluttered furniture is gone. The menu is changed and good . The frog leg could have been better but still ok. The waitresses very friendly but very busy and not enough for the crowd. They forgot our wine and the bill. But can’t complain the environment is nice enough to wait.
