Kings Heath Park

Story

Kings Heath Park is a Green Flag status park in the Kings Heath district of Birmingham, England, which is managed by Birmingham City Council. For a time, the park was used as the setting for the popular ATV programme Gardening Today.HistoryThe park is centred on a house, built in 1832 for the newly elected MP William Congreve Russell. In 1880 the house was bought by John Cartland, a wealthy industrialist and ancestor of the author Barbara Cartland. In 1902 the Cartland family formed the Priory Trust Co Ltd to own and manage the house and land with the intention of developing the area for housing. These plans came to nothing, and on 9 November 1908 the Trust sold the house and half the surrounding land to the Kings Norton and Northfield Urban District Council. The council immediately opened the grounds as a public park. From 1909-1911 the house was used as a school. In 1911, Kings Heath — and the park — was incorporated into the city of Birmingham. The Trust sold the remaining land to Birmingham Corporation on 10 February 1914, and this was immediately incorporated into the park.In 1953, the city council created a School of Horticultural Training in the house, using part of the park as training gardens. Since 1995, this has been run, under a partnership arrangement, by Pershore (later Warwickshire) College and Bournville College.

My local park. We like coming here for a walk and skateboarding. My daughter sometimes play netball too. There are 2 very convenient car parks. The park is ideal for running and dog walking. The little stream river is a nice bonus
I've always loved this park since moving to Kings Heath as a child in 1978. Very fortunate to have this on my doorstop. Lots of changes during the years but always beautifully maintained.
Love this park. Have been going to it ever since I was a child. Beautiful area and well maintained. Very much enjoyed by everyone of all ages.
Regardless of the season, Kings Heath Park is a wonderful place to go for a walk and the perfect local getaway from the hustle and bustle of the nearby High Street. I feel very privileged to live within walking distance.
The park itself is great, the cafe located in the park is a completely different matter. My partner who is 7 months pregnant needed to use the toilet and was refused access and was then told by staff that they also refused to help someone the other week who had a miscarriage. Not to mention the fact that the prices are astronomical.
Very good and tidy park. Sunny days it is bit crowded. But I love to walk around this park. It's not very big but reasonable one.
Lovely in the autumn weather. Many many people out walking. Car parks full. Cafe open for takeaways.
Good has a zipline great for walking dogs quiet beautiful good for children nice place to hang out
