Martineau Gardens

About

A beautiful community garden. An oasis for wildlife, a haven of tranquillity or simply a great destination for an outdoor adventure, come and explore!

Story

Martineau Gardens is a place where people, plants and wildlife meet. Our mission is to inspire people about the natural environment. We also provide volunteering opportunities in the garden and are a venue for educational activities and courses.

You can visit Martineau Gardens every day except Sunday (and Bank Holidays) between 10am and 4pm, we're free to enter (except for some special events).

Martineau Gardens is the registered charity that manages the gardens and wildlife area. We are a Community Garden, a Social Enterprise and a Visitor Attraction.

Our beautiful community garden is two and a half acres in size, organically managed and you'll find lots to see within this modest space. An orchard, food growing beds, a hot house, wildflower meadow, a wildlife area (with SLINC status), woodland, meandering paths, a bird hide, a children's play area, picnic space and more. We can make you hot or cold drinks for which donations are welcomed (served from the Pavilion). You can pick up a plant or two, buy fresh seasonal produce, local honey, preserves, chutneys, chopped logs and compost.

We have many regular volunteers who contribute so much to the gardens. We also have corporate volunteers from local businesses. Our members elect Trustees at the Annual General Meeting to take overall responsibility for the organisation.

Such a beautiful and calm place! Staff are very nice and welcoming, showed us around, offered hot drinks. You can buy a homemade jelly here, tastes amazing! Will be back for sure, definitely recommend
Amazing gardens. They grow lots of vegetables and fruits, helped by people with disabilities. Great day out with the kids where they can learn how different veggies and fruits are grown. Toilets available. Great little venue for outdoor party too.
Well cute. love the bird watching den, and izzy liked the chalk board in the pirate ship. Will be back when it's not so cold !! real lovely place Picnic area: really nice areas in the woodlands to sit and picnic.
A brilliant FREE ENTRY community garden! They’d always had a cool pirate ship there but now it’s been very much updated and little man loved it! They have some chalkboard walls inside the ship where children are free to write and draw whatever they wish. There’s also a little sandpit in it too. There are 5/6 picnic tables by it aswell so great for taking a picnic. They have a couple of trails on including a stick man trail where you can pick up an optional activity pack for a £2.50 donation, which then goes back into the maintenance each of the gardens. Free entry Open Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm Toilet facilities open Small free car park
It's very good, informal relaxed. Mysterious too. I bought some very reasonable plants, then, hush, picked some ripe figs. Marvelled as the tree and other fruits are in quite a shady spot. Make a donation, buy some plants if you go, as it is a charity, as far as I know.
Free entry community garden! A 2.5 acres of beautiful landscape to explore for the whole family. A wildlife oasis and a haven of tranquility. Twisting paths meander past woodland, orchard, ponds, formal garden, an earth oven, a shipwreck children’s play area and more. They grow lots of vegetables and fruits, helped by volunteers. Great day out with the kids where they can learn how different veggies and fruits are grown. Very kind volunteers who are there to help you with all your needs. Free parking and public toilets onsite.
Came here fir a Tai Chi and wood crafts activities evening was so relaxing did wood carving first I made a butter knife as soon as you learn basic ways to carve it becomes so calming many thoughts came to mind we built a fire had sone snakes then finished with Tai Chi which was amazing. Also free parking. Can't believe such beauty is in heart of Birmingham City Playground: Massive ship made from wood, bee hives and trails Restrooms: Toilets available Picnic area: Benches around the land beautiful gardens to see
Lovely place to visit. We had a great time looking around at all of the different plants, trees, fruits and vegetables. Lots of very friendly staff and volunteers. My daughters attended one of the childrens events plant professors and had lots of fun whilst learning a lot - and getting to taste some plants! There was a lovely space for the children to play, with a sand pit and we were able to have a picnic there too. We will definitely be going back!
Good place to have some rest and peace. Lots of community events in the year. Nice garden and you can buy plants cheap as well.
Lovely place to go..always someone to chat to and fabulous Outdoor TaiChi classes in the summer months. A right little gem
