Fab night at the Crypt for a big birthday celebration - Mary and the team are all wonderful and helped make everything run smoothly. We had live bands playing and the sound and atmosphere are brilliant. Different areas meant that people could be chilling outside or chatting in the bar whilst the dancefloor was full in front of the stage. Guests loved it. Can't recommend highly enough.
One of South London's best kept secrets - a jazz club attracting world class talent with great service, drinks and food and a fantastic cosy setting. Love this place and everything about it, and tickets are cheap as anything - around £11 typically, and that's less than anywhere else equivalent in London. Sound is very good - current desk and PA. Bar well stocked with nice options for beers, a few spirits, cocktails and wines. A small kitchen offers inexpensive freshly made food and snacks. Well worth visiting and becoming a regular.
Our first visit! Had a lovely night, thought we'd leave a timeline in case anyone was wondering approximately what happens. We arrived around 8:30, paid £10 per person at the door they prefer card, ordered two mains and a side, drinks, and managed to find two seats even though we had no reservation. Two brave souls were running the kitchen for the entire audience. We were told food would be an approximate 40 min wait, then given buzzers which would notify us when food was ready. The tables facing the stage were all taken at this point, so due to the multitude of pillars it is a crypt after all, we couldn't actually see the stage from where we were, but the vibes were good and we chatted while we waited. The performance started around 9:20, we really enjoyed the music. The katsu curry, prawn pho and sausage starter were all delicious and very reasonably priced, and we ate it perched on our stools, trying not to make too much noise with the cutlery. There was an intermission around 10:30, and then more music afterwards. Some people left during the interval so we moved to better seats. All in all an excellent experience, thank you to everyone performing and working tonight!
we hired The Crypt for a birthday event and it couldn't have been a better experience. an intimate, cool venue with a great sound system and staff who were super helpful and professional from start to finish. our guests kept remarking how much they enjoyed being there, would highly recommend for hire and definitely plan to come and check out the jazz nights too!
Cool use of a church crypt for a music venue. Staff always very friendly and there is often musicians playing here that I want to see! Though... It is hard to ignore the awkward layout of the space & it is sometimes a bit difficult to hear and see the music eg. if you get stuck behind a column, but generally has a great atmosphere / lineup..!
An absolute amazing place at the crypt of a church. A beautiful music venue, great atmosphere. Excellent and polite service. I strongly recommend it to every single jazz enthusiast. A unique experience.
Very nice experience. Magical place. Magical music. Very good food. Crowded atmosphere. Entry: 10£/personFood: 5/5
Jazz in the Crypt is a London institution, a chance to see excellent jazz concerts at a very reasonable price. It’s a bit off the beaten track for visitors but well worth it. Tip: get there when the doors open because most seats don’t have a view of the stage. Photos of Mussinghi Brian Edwards & Friends, one of the Crypt’s regular jazz concerts.
Wonderful hidden gem Jazz Club. Really the real deal.Food: 4/5
Really cool, unique place to watch live jazz. Will definitely come back. Would be 5* if the view to the stage wasn't blocked from so many places. Arrive early for a table and good view. They've got a well-stocked bar, serve food & have a great outdoor seating area at the back too.
